How could we know if the soul departed is in heaven or purgatory now?

I think many people must want to know if your departed loved ones are in heaven or still in purgatory. So that we can pray for their souls if their souls are still in purgatory. As there is no time in heaven/ purgatory, maybe they are still in purgatory after many years? how could we know the prayer for the soul is enough and its time to stop?

Is there any method to know if the soul is in purgatory or rised to heaven, or has anyone tried the method and it works? for example, ask God to send us some signals to indicate the soul is still in purgatory? or pray to the soul to intercede for us for something which indicates the soul is in heaven already?
 
Apart from private revelation, there’s no real way of knowing that your loved one is in Heaven, or is in Purgatory, needing prayers. The best thing that we can do is continually pray for their soul, in case that if we stop, their time in Purgatory will be extended. We certainly don’t want that for our loved ones, do we?
 
There is no way to know for sure whether a soul is in Heaven, Purgatory, or Hell. Because of this, we must continually pray for all deceased lest they are forgotten while still needing purgation. The Holy Souls in Purgatory can still pray for us on earth, so it isn’t a sign they are in Heaven if they answer our prayers.
 
Ask your guardian angel to found out for you. Padre Pio would suggest this kind of thing.

You can’t know where they are. Just pray for them & God will take care of any extra prayers.
 
I’m pretty sure my husband is in Heaven a/c he suffered very much and never complained - BUT I may have proof. Our oldest son was in the American military for 25 years and was getting ready to retire (in the Vietnam war he had a draft number of 4). At any rate, he felt he had to find another job because his two sons were in college, and he had to help pay their tuition. At any rate, I was at the cemetery and asked my husband to talk to God a/c Mike needed a job. Believe it or not,my son called the next day and he had 3 job offers!!!
 
I’ve heard of instances where a soul appeared to a someone and thanked them for their prayers and said they were in Heaven now. But that would be private revelation. I think most of us will never know until we die and must just keep praying for the souls.
 
We, of course, know that no prayer is wasted so if your loved one is in Heaven, your prayers will be applied to someone else. Keep praying. 🙂

You will never know. Besides as a Catholic, you should continue praying for the Holy Souls and not just your loved ones. These extra prayers will be your merits and the other Holy Souls in Purgatory will also help with their prayers in heaven. One day God will show you in heaven all the prayers and merits you gained while here on Earth. The Holy Souls you prayed for will also be ETERNALLY thankful for your prayers

Also, even if you pray for your relatives, God will be the one who will decide first which soul in Purgatory should benefit first from your prayer.

And maybe God would not even give you a sign or signal, if He knows that it would only lead you to stop praying for the Holy Souls…
