How cults deal with problemaic questions

I’ve discovered something strange which I’ve never noticed before about cult members: how they answer questions.

It appears that they either ignore the questions, hoping they’ll go away, or they’ll point fingers at the questioner and accuse him of similar things, or they’ll use some fallacious argument to answer the question, or they’ll bring up topics which are not related to the question so as to distract the questioner, or they’ll ask questions to answer questions, but not give an answer to the first question.

I have noticed that about them.

I have not talked to any other cult members. One big thing with muslims too is their strong lobby and their successful attempts at intimidation, using our laws to silence/censor people, and using the UN to shut people up.

I think that there should be interventions on our kids who think they want to convert to Islam. It is more like a brainwashing system rather than a free will based system. And I say that because of the deception that is used to fool people about islam. They are covering its history and their prophet’s history. They twist that history, or twist the absolutely poor behavior of their prophet.

And I suppose it is a strategy they use. They are not able to hold a creditable debate to justify their religion because since Muhammad they have just killed those who spoke against him.

I am certain that when the Holy Father speaks of Muslims honoring the same God as we do, he means the billions who have been lied to. Not those sly foxes who recruit ignorant people to their ranks.

The only thing is that we can never rest on our laurels again. The muslims do not and they work on a daily basis to indoctrinate, etc. Now, I would like to ask - what was that PhD guy - a doctor in what? Too many of our Universities are nothing but islamic apologists and it is getting irritating since our young adults are getting indoctrinated with their deceptions.

Cult types and severe radicals have a tendency to do several things:

1. They “preach”, and get upset if you interrupt for far any reason. Some when interrupted have to go back to the beginning of the spiel, and start all over…
2. When asked a direct question, they either refuse to answer, get more upset and merely answer the question with another question that may not have anything to do with the original statement or question.
3. When all else fails, they will go on the offensive and attack the person in order attempt to defame oe destroy the character of the person they disagree with to attempt to destroy the argument.
4. Failing that, they may launch into extremely obfuscatory “quoting” of statements, scriptures, suras, or anything that they can dredge up.

If you “play” by their rules and follow the order of their “game plan” you can have a lot of fun…

He received his Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette (!) University. Call me an alarmist, but biomedical engineering would be a good degree to have for bio-terrorism.

That’s disgraceful. You have no reason to believe the man is a terrorist other than that he’s a Muslim, and then you assume that because he has a PHD is biomedical engineering, he must be a terrorist. This is ridiculous prejudice. I’m ashamed to read this on a Catholic website.

I didn’t accuse HIM of anything. Just an observation. And had you attended the lecture I did, you would realize that Islam is strictly indoctrination. There is no choice of faith. They believe what is “logical,” not mystical.

They do not believe that Jesus was crucified; tortured by the Romans, yes, but was whisked away by The One True God at the last moment, so He did not die, and He did not arise from the dead.

The people presenting the program were very gracious and warm. Just not ready to discuss Christian Doctrine with Christians.

I would imagine that most of the Muslims you have talked to don’t know the answers to so-called “problematic questions.” You should hear some of the garbage I’ve heard from people of other faiths when asking questions about their beliefs.

This thread seems to be just another to try to point fingers and criticize people over nothing. Waste of space. Good thing I haven’t been around for a while.

Clearly, the observation was meant to imply something. If the man was a Catholic priest, I doubt it would have been made. If they were so gracious and warm, why even make that statement?

Those sound like common tactics of many people who cannot defend their argument. I doubt it’s limited to cult members.

One of the most important things about a mature person, in my opnion, is that they have reasoned through what they believe, and can defend their beliefs effectively without getting upset when they are challenged. Also, that they actually listen to the people they are talking with, and are open to learning something new.

It doesn’t bother me-I’m glad to see you accept responsibility for your actions. I’ll simply let people know your motivation and they can decide if they want to “play along” or not-that way anyone who has honest questions won’t waste their time with your “game”.

I don’t know if the actions you describe are actually how cults respond to questions, but they are your modus operandi-that’s what I was referring to.

The word “judgmental” doesn’t bother me, Rob, John 7:24-Jesus said to “judge justly” so that’s what I attempt to do. It’s no sin to call a player a player.

I’d say for a start a good witness would be someone who put concern for souls over gameplaying, but keep enjoying yourself, there are other Catholics here who are filling that role admirably without your assistance.

Those things happen on CAF & CARM & other Christian forums all the time.​
