If the impure thoughts were homosexual, then that is how it should be confessed because it is different from male-female lustful/impure thoughts. You could just say" I have indulged in same sex impure thoughts" if you find yourself reluctant to use the word homosexual.
Whilst God forgives your sins through his minister, it is the minister to whom He has appointed the judge to judge the gravity of the sin and it is to this same minister to whom He has granted the power to loose or bind. God has ordained such matters, that for the forgiveness of serious/grave/mortal sin, that we are to voice (assuming one can speak) our sins to another human - His ministers during the Sacrament of Confession.
