I read in the NY Times that Catholic priests distributed communion wafers at an ecumenical service without regard to denomination. Often I heard priests admonish non catholics not to receive communion. So, how was it accomplished in Taize, France?

Dear I,

One of the monks of Taize explained to me that at the monastery, the Catholic monks celebrate the Eucharist in a chapel downstairs—separate from the Protestant monks. But all other prayer is offered in common.

I’m not aware that the Eucharist is a part of Taize’s ecumenical services with the laity. But if it is, I expect that similar arrangements are in place.

P.S. Since answering this question, I too have read the above-mentioned article. I think we need to wait to see how accurate the article is before commenting further.
