How did confession in its present form evolve?

i HAVE BEEN A CATHOLIC ALL MY LIFE AND AM STILL A PRACTICING ONE HOWEVER i JUST DON’T BELIEVE IN CONFESSION ANYMORE. i DON’T BELIEVE THAT GOD DOESN’T FORGIVE MY SINS IF I AM TRULY SORRY FOR THEM WITHOUT A PRIEST. HOW DID CONFESSION IN IT’S PRESENT FORM EVOLVE ANYWAY? OVER THE YEARS I HAVE HAD SOME REAL LULU’S FOR PRIESTS AS CONFESSORS!
