Jesus appeared on the scene approximately 350 years after prophecy had ended, and thus could not be a prophet.”
Jesus was above a prophet (Neviim- prophet). Read the book of Samuel. Samuel was a prophet who identified the Messiah, Laws of the King and Laws concerning Kings and the Messiah. Who can identify a Messiah? Who will announce his succession?
Can the Messiah be regarded as a prophet?
Mashiach in his capacity as king, not in his capacity as prophet, for a prophet may not judge.
4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah;
5 and they said to him, “Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways.

The Law of the King (Dvarim 17: 14-20) appears after a number of other laws regarding the institutions of peoplehood and statehood.
The idea of Samuel (a prophet) and the chosing of a King (the Messiah) is that the prophet is one one who will identify him. Much like John the Baptist and the acclamation that Zechariah prayer made at his birth:
He spoke through His holy prophets,
those of ages past,
71 salvation from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us,
72 to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember His holy covenant,
73 the oath He swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
74 deliverance from hostile hands,
that we may serve Him without fear,
75 in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our lives.
76 And you, child, will be called a
prophet of the Most High, for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for Him
Samuel identified both Messiahs - Saul and David. A line of succession came afterwards.
