It appears that Peter took it literally:

1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Peter referred to the Noah’s Ark story for its religious message. All of us believe in the message of Noah’s Ark and that the story is useful for religious teaching. That has nothing to do with whether it is a history or a legend.

I know lots of people who have married their first cousins. (Albeit, in the Maronite Catholic Chuch; But would that make a difference?)

And for the record, they all have perfectly healthy children.
I also know first cousin pairs. It is (or at least used to be common in some areas of Italy). To my knowledge, they received dispensations to marry. They are all Roman rite.

Current code of canon law went into effect in 1983. I don’t know what the code said prior to that date.
