How did Paul become accepted as an Apostle?

I have always wondered how it is that Peter and the other Apostles accepted Paul/Saul as an Apostle, and to give him so much real power and authority? I do not recall that he ever a BISHOP like the others? I love St Paul and his writings, but given the way the others were chosen BY Christ in the flesh…perhaps Peter was given “light” on this issue after Paul’s conversion??? Is there some ancient writing about this?

Apostle generally means one who is sent (on a mission). The 12 Apostles were “sent” by Jesus to preach to the world. St. Paul is an Apostle because he too was sent by Jesus to preach to the world. St. Paul is considered a bishop the same as the other Apostles. The other Apostles saw St. Paul’s conversion as genuine and believed he had seen the risen Christ and been sent by Him.
