How did the Roman Catholic Latin Mass get to be referred to as the Tridentine Mass?

If I remember correctly, it is because it is the Mass (aside from some small changes) that was promulgated by the Council of Trent.

Technically, the Council of Trent “codified” the Mass. There were so many varieties,( most were local customs that had developed over time) so the Council decided to simplify things. They set down a “standard” that was to be followed by all localities, except where the local tradition was over 200 years old. so a few Rites still exits; ie, Dominican, Ambrosian, and a few others.

This is true. The Latin Mass as we know it had roots in the early centuries, especially the Roman Canon. Trent attempted to standardize the liturgy in both language and rubrics, allowing very few exceptions, and expressed anathemas to counter any objections.
