We were introduced by a mutual friend at the first campus Mass of my last semester in college. I put Church, because that was the most important part.
I passed him the next day on my way to class, and hollered hi.
Didn’t see him again until Ash Wednesday. I really had no business at the service I went to since I was scheduled to sing at Mass that night, but he was there playing music and I invited him to join a group to see the Passion. I wasn’t looking for a relationship as I had just ended a 3 year debacle, just trying to get people to see the movie because it was awesome.
We met again when we were both late for rosary at the student center- I was a regular, he had never joined us before. We couldn’t find the rest of the group, so we prayed together, I told him my life story (was preparing for a testimony I was supposed to give later that week as part of a missionary interview process), we ate dinner together, I asked him to walk me home, and he did. He wrote me the nicest email about how much he enjoyed his evening, and I knew right away he was interested whether he knew it or not. Turns out his girlfriend had asked for some ‘time apart’ the week before, and called while we were out to tell his RA (resident advisor) that he had “stolen” some of her belongings that she left in his room (guitar, amp, who knows what else…) and to call the police on him.
I invited him to celebrate my sister’s boyfriend’s birthday with me and another guy the next day, and when I dropped him off at the dorm, he expressed interest in being my accompaniment on guitar since I was doing music a capella through Lent.
We started dating exactly a month later, and he proposed just this Easter. The date is set for May 20 next year.
