How did you choose your confirmation name?

It was many decades ago. After a lot of thought, I chose Michael. The image of a powerful archangel putting God’s enemies to the sword probably appealed to me at an impressionable age.

I already had been praying a prayer to St. Joseph nightly, and I happened to know so many people with Joseph as a first or middle name, so I took it as a sign that God wanted me to have Joseph as a confirmation name. I never regretted it, nor did I have any second thoughts. I just knew it had to be Joseph.

My mum wanted me to have it, she also chose it and my great aunt chose it as her name when she became a nun.

I chose St. Albertus Magnus. At the time I was working on a certificate in medical transcription, and he is the patron saint of those who work with medical technology.

Edit: As it turned out, I was unable to get a job in that field; the technology was in the middle of a complete revolution. If I had it to do over, I would have just kept my own name.

As I have mixed twins I would love it if they chose St Benedict and St Scholastica (who were twins) but I will let them choose.

Quite a few years yet.

If they ask at the time, they have only just done their first holy communion.

I hope they care when the time comes.

What year was this? I do remember the transitioning in the field…several times as a matter of fact…but I also know transcriptionists that have made a very nice career of it. Computerization was the biggest as I recall…is that the period you’re talking about.

Side note about St. Albertus…we had a picture of him in our lab! I was a Medical Technologist and we felt we needed all the help we could get! Only two Techs were Catholics…out of 27!

I chose St John of God. He was a soldier who after his military service built hospitals and helped many, including those with mental illnesses such as depression.

Mine is Simon (after Peter, not the Cyrenian). Not only has Simon Peter always been the character in the Bible I connect with the most and draw the most inspiration from, but growing up my dad mentioned multiple times he had wanted to name me Simon but my mom had shot it down. So it just seemed like the right choice.

My guess is I will be telling my future son the same story about the name Peter 😛

I loved animals and the story of St. Francis of Assisi. When I was older I learned more about his story and knew I made the right choice.

St. John.

My mother’s urging. She was going to name me John except that I already had a cousin named that.
