How did you get your name?

My name comes from the name of a flower. It’s actually a derivative of it. I’m very happy with my name. I get a lot of compliments from it. People say ‘oh what a pretty name’. 🙂

Although I was thinking it would have been nice if I was named after a saint or any other good Catholic personalities. 😛

As far as I know, my names were chosen simply because my parents liked them. =)

My mother told me that when I was an infant, she and my father could not agree on what to name me. She wanted to name me Allison, and my father wanted to name me Aurora. They argued about it constantly. Finally, my grandmother came in and said “You’re naming her Amanda, and that’s that. Now hush.” They did.

My middle name is Gerard. My mom had several miscarriages before me, and I was a difficult pregnancy as well. A friend suggested she pray to Saint Gerard Majella, patron of expectant mothers. I was given the name in gratitude for his intercession.
My middle name is Gerard, for the same reason. 👍

Pamela.

I was named after my grandmother, -fathers mother-

But my dad wanted a boy and he wanted to name him Nickolas

So, since I wasn’t a boy… 😛 They named me Pamela Nicole… 😃

My parents, and everyone else, thought I was a boy until I was born and surprised everyone, they were going to name me (when they thought I was a boy) after my grandfathers…well, William Ernest would not work well for a girl, so my dad wanted to name me after my mom, Betty with my middle name after a close family friend…great. Until I became an adult and my student loans and other things started showing up on my mom’s credit report as well as other issues because apparently your middle initial and SSN are irrelevant. So I changed my name, but wanted to keep “Betty” so I replaced it with Elisabeth, no more confusion and Betty is a nickname for Elisabeth so everyone is happy.

Originally, my Mom had chosen the first and middle name “Benjamin Joseph” for me…when, at the last minute, my grandmother prettymuch begged her to name me Joshua instead! 🙂 So, I became “Joshua Gabriel.” I tease my Mom a lot about her caving into my grandmother’s request so easily, but I love my name.

I have decided, however, that when I’m married and have my first son, he’ll be the Benjamin Joseph I wasn’t. 🙂

My first name my parents let my sister pick. (Thank God because my dad wanted to name me after his sister who has a very unusual German name -probably not too unusual in Germany but I never met anyone else with that name here.) Middle name is a saint.

My Mother named me after a Saint she prayed to because she was having a difficult pregnancy. She pleaded if everything was fine I would be named after her, and I was. But it was not the most common name growing up and I hated it (so I always went by my middle name).

Sadly (now that I am thinking about it), when I first moved to pursue my career I made the decision to change my name. Business-wise, best thing I could have done but it hurt my parents at first, even though I would always say when I could legally do it, I would. I guess seeing it in paper was a reality check. That’s Hollywood for you: Everyone changes everything. I kept my middle name though. I had to keep some part of me.

My parents had a name picked out for their future daughter for years. A few years before I was born, my aunt had a little girl and used that name for her. My mom decided that she would pick a new name, as she wasn’t even pregnant yet, and she didn’t want me to have the same name as one of my cousins.

My mom worked at a bank, and one day a woman came in wanting to open up a savings account for her daughter. My mom fell in love with the daughter’s name and wrote it down on a piece of paper that she carried in her purse with her. When my mom found out that she was pregnant, she was excited to finally be able to use that name, until they told her she was having a boy. So she picked her boy’s name. She was very surprised when it turned out that I was actually a girl, and she was able to use the name she’d carried around with her for a couple of years.

Allison Nicole-my mom named me that “because she liked it” that’s it. For a boy, she liked the name Eric. My dad wanted the name Remington for a boy (I am so glad I wasn’t a boy) and he and my mom got in many fights because she hated that name. She said she would have compromised and done Remington Eric and had me go by Eric. My dad wanted the initials REP, same as his, and my sisters.

My parents didn’t know my gender until I was born, and my dad didn’t really care as much about picking a girl’s name, so my mom got to pick, “Allison Nicole.”

I’ve never cared for my name, but I at least am glad I was never one of 2 or 3 in my class, like the Brittanys, Amandas, Ashleys, Sarahs…no offense, those aren’t ugly names, it’s just a pain being “Brittany C., Amanda F., Ashley S., Ashley J.” etc.

I got my name due to the 11th commandment of naming girls in the 1970s…

Thou shalt name a daughter Jennifer Lynn so she can be one of a million females with that name. haha :p:D

Seriously, my mom just liked it. It just so happened that so did every other mom. LOL

My first name my parents let my sister pick.
This could be dangerous, though! 😃 When I was pregnant with DS, DH and I asked DD what we should name her little brother. If we’d gone with her suggestion, DS would now be “Lion”. 😛

That’s funny! My sister was born the same year the Flinstone’s had Pebbles - we were disappointed when Mom and Dad name her Colleen instead of Pebbles!

My brother has the middle name Gerard for the same reasons as stated earier.

I am named Regina Ann - after my Great Aunt Regina (my Dad’s favorite aunt) and my Mom’s Mother. There were times I HATED the name Regina, but now I love it. It is a Marian name - Regina Coeli (Queen of Heaven).

I was named Kathleen Mary after my mom’s dear Catholic friend. It made all of my mom’s Protestant aunts crazy!

Kathy

Ahh, that’s so weird! Regina Ann will be my third future daughters name. 😛

Lion, hmmm…I have a friend who is Egyptian (she’s Coptic Orthodox) she always wanted to name her son Osama (Lion), until 9/11, then she changed her mind. Her son, who was born after that, is named Karim (kindness).

My father heard the name of a fault line in California. San Andreas’ fault.:o When he read that it was the feminine name for Andrew, he chose that name. I’ve been teased all my life about my name.😦
