Really? That’s such a common name.
Really? That’s such a common name.
We have almost the same name thenMy father heard the name of a fault line in California. San Andreas’ fault. When he read that it was the feminine name for Andrew, he chose that name. I’ve been teased all my life about my name.

Ahh, that’s such a cute story, what a blessed day to be born on.My maternal grandparents used to “let God pick the name.”. Basically, they would name the baby after whichever saint was being celebrated that day. Worked great until my uncle was born on Ascension Thursday–no patron saint that day! So she just named him Ascension.
It is now, but not when I was growing up. My father pronounced it like the fault line.Really? That’s such a common name.
Yes, I love the story! And I have seriously considered naming my son after him, but I think DH is looking for something more along the lines of a “real name.” Maybe as a middle name…Ahh, that’s such a cute story, what a blessed day to be born on.
I love the name too, especially in Spanish.![]()
You could have gone with “Leon”.This could be dangerous, though! When I was pregnant with DS, DH and I asked DD what we should name her little brother. If we’d gone with her suggestion, DS would now be “Lion”.

Oh, so with an S on the end.It is now, but not when I was growing up. My father pronounced it like the fault line.
The “yell test”…I love it. I don’t know if it passes the “whisper test”, though; the ‘s’ on the end could be pretty nerve-shattering.I was supposed to be named “Inge”, until my parents heard someone with a very unpleasant voice holler that name across a play area. The name did not pass the yell test. They opted for “Iris” instead, they had an acquaintance with a little girl by that name, and they loved it as soon as they heard it. I always get complimented on my name, but I never cared much for it myself.
The “yell test” - love it! When I was pregnant, one of my best friends (who at that point had a 5 year old little boy, very fun, mischievous little guy LOL) said that as soon as we thought we had good names picked out (boy & girl, as we weren’t finding out the sex of the baby), we needed to yell it as if the child was in trouble. I love your story! That’s so amazing and I really love the name Mary Anne/Marianne. God bless youu!My name is Mary Ann. I was born in a hospital at 1.30 p.m. The family doctor could not get there on time. It must have been his lunch hour. Two nurses were present at my birth. My dad was pleased with their efforts at helping me to arrive safely.
He decided to reward one of them for the effort. He asked one of the nurses what her name was. She was outraged by this question and must have considered my dad to be a playboy. The nurse stormed off in a huff. My dad shouted out: “I will not name my baby after you!”
Dad asked the other nurse her name. She told him that it was Mary Anne, and that became my name. The other nurse came back later, feeling very humbled over her mistake. She asked my dad what he had named me. When she heard the answer she replied; that’s close because my name is Marianne!
Apparently my name pleased a few people. My grandfather thought that I had been named after his mother, however mum never knew the name of her grandmother. A neighbor named Marianne who was celebrating her seventh birthday on the day that I born, thought that I was named in her honour.
I was born on the feast day of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, (so that ties in very well with Mary and St. Ann.)
One last thing: the spelling of my birth name was Mary Anne. However I never knew this and always spelt Anne without an E. Apparently when signing my marriage certificate without the E on Anne, I legally changed my name, without knowing it! What difference could that make you ask? Well it **nearly **cost me getting an Australian passport (when the mistake came to light) and I almost missed out on a free trip to Europe because of it!
Now for something which is far less trivial
Learn ways to help the Holy Souls in Purgatory and read testimonies of their powerful intercession for their benefactors
St. Theresa of Avila said that she always obtained the favours which she asked from God, through the intercession of the Poor Souls in Purgatory.
I might have that beat. My Dad is a geek and I was named after a comic book character. He named me after Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow…My first name “Mary” is after Our Lady and my middle name is for the saint on who’s feast day I was born.
I once knew a girl who’s parents picked her first name because they heard it on a toilet paper commercial and liked the sound of it!![]()
We have an acquaintance that was named after a character from Star Trek. She seems okay with it (and no her name is not Nyota Uhura).I might have that beat. My Dad is a geek and I was named after a comic book character. He named me after Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow… Go Dad!
