How did you meet?

It was the fall of 1967 and I was a student at Kent State University and my husband was a student at another university but came into town on the weekends to party. There was a lot of partying at KSU. I met him in a bar. He asked me to dance, I danced with him, then he asked me out for the next weekend and I said No. He said "Why not?’ And I told him "Because how do I know you will show up?: (I had been recently burned this way and was not going out with anyone I met in a bar.) He promised to show up at my dorm the next Friday, but he was late, and I put my PJ"s on and said “Never again”. However, he did show up, an hour late, with a perfectly legitimate excuse, and I got dressed again and we went out and had a good time. Then he showed up the next weekend, and the next, he just kept showing up on the weekends…and we will be married 41 years in July.

My fiancé and I met through mutual friends…

My friend/cousin had just moved into her house and wanted to have people over to play pitch (cards), so she invited a couple of female friends and her boyfriend (now husband) invited a couple of male friends. My beloved was one of them.

We very quickly discovered we had a lot in common, had attended the same university - and parish - at the same time (I was an undergrad, he was a graduate student, so we never met, despite knowing the same people). It was only after about 8 months of casual “hanging out” with friends (fish fries, swing dancing, ultimate frisbee) and occasional “outings” (a bike ride or meeting for brunch after mass) that he finally asked me out - the night our mutual friends got married!

It was totally worth the wait, though - we entered our relationship knowing we were looking for our future spouse, we were able to begin on a deeper level (having already gotten the preliminaries out of the way), and we began praying and attending mass together within the first month.

God is great - we’ll be married this August!

I just wanted to say I love these stories!

I am surprised how many people have met on-line. My son met his wife on-line, too. They emailed and IM’ed for a few months and she kept turning him down for a face-to-face. (She didn’t realize, of course, that he was a sweetheart guy and not some pervy dude!) So when she finally accepted his invitation, she insisted they meet at the public library!! They stayed at the library two hours, then went to a fast-food place for food. She allowed him to actually take her out on a regular date after that. I think it was two years later they married. Now they have a baby - my 1st grandson!
