How do Catholics explain the paranormal?

A simple and polite request: Would someone please link to any confirmed paranormal activity that could be repeated in a controlled envirnoment? Peace.
I think IF such an activity could be repeated… then it no longer is paranormal… it would be normal for that activity to happen over and over again.

The supernatural or paranormal means that it rarely or does NOT normally happen. IF it repeated itself all the time, it would then become normal under those conditions and can no longer be considered paranormal…

I’ve heard somewhere that no psychic or medium has ever really truly solved a case.

They may guess and maybe on some occasions come close to the truth, but random guesses or intelligent guesses sooner or later sometimes hits close to the mark.

The sign of a true prophet is that they are right 100% of the time.// even some famous ones like Jean Dixon ( a catholic BTW) was not 100 % right… at one point she predicted that Ted Kennedy would be president or VP… he never made either…she would have been stoned to death as a false prophet in biblical times.

Christians claim anything outside of God is a Demonic evil presence, and therefore any non church sanctioned miracle or paranormal event is the work of Satan or his minions. And of course woe be to those poor souls who have contact with such occult entity’s.

Now what individual Christians may think varies but the RCC is of the official position that the paranormal is very real and very dangerous.

Its Christian absoluteism at its best in my oppinion. But I guess it’s better than a buch of Christians running around dabbling in the occult without knowing what they are doing, incompetence is how possessions happen.

Everything is either: supernatural; preternatural; or natural. God is the source of the supernatural; the preternatural realm is that of the angels God created a little higher than man, including the fallen angels; and the natural reflects the process of God’s creation. Christ said we would do miracles greater than He performed, and these may be ascribed to scientific breakthroughs from Western culture back-engineering a cogent Creator. The End

PS I think evidence points to UFO phenomena as being from the fallen angels. UFO researcher Jacques Valle, caricatured in “Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind,” said they always lie and always hurt people. Father Malachi Martin suggested their behavior is to demean mankind, made in the image and likeness of God. This UFO-type behavior was seen in the Middle Ages as noted in Witchcraft in Western Europe. They reported “faerie circles” and the UFO-types said they were from the “Queen of the Faeries.” Incubus and succubus were the “probers.” PEACE OF JESUS CHRIST TO US ALL

PPS A modern Christian UFO researcher notes that baptized people don’t get abducted by the UFO types with one exception. They have to ask the person’s permission as in the case of the Catholic woman abducted in front of her whole family while they were in a kind of stupor. They asked, she said yes, and that’s NO GOOD!

Please tell me you are kidding. YES BAPTIZED PEOPLE GET ABDUCTED! What researcher is distributing this non scence, please tell me. I personally think the whole connection between aliens and demons is just an attempt by creationists to explain extraterrestrial activity. All evidence points to them being natural beings advanced far beyond us.

Just think if you were driving to work tomorow and were suddenly in the middle of ancient Egypt. That’s our technology to theirs, a camel to a sedan. They would think you were some kind of god-sorcerer-demon. Thats actualy probably not even enough of a time difference to be comparable but it illustrates the point, we have a tendency to call all thing we can’t explain supernatural, when it’s often just science we don’t yet understand.

What!? So if turning off lights with your thoughts were common then it would not be considered paranormal and would be otherwise considered normal!? OK, then provide an example of something that was once considered to be paranormal but is now considered normal.

Flying. I don’t really see your point here. If you could turn the lights off by your own will, it would have a physical explanation, but miracles and paranormal stuff occurs when laws of nature and probability are broken without human control and explanation.

WHen something happens ALL the time… then it is now normal. Many years ago flipping a switch and having a light appear would have been paranormal, because such thing simply did not happen. Electricity was not discovered yet.

Today, it is nothing more than what everybody does when entering a dark room.

IF all or most humans developed elepathic abilities to turn on a swich that to would no longer be paranormal, but simply a normal exercise of an ability acquired or developed by the ‘norm’.

Normal is relative. When everyone becomes exceptional, then no one is.

To me, the supernatural has only two sources: God and Satan.

I think what we deem “ghosts” are mostly demons posing as human spirits, although I believe God does permit human spirits to roam.

I think that those who commit suicide are condemned to a ghostly existence until they repent or clear some unfinished buisiness.

When I went to summer camp, the teacher of arts and crafts told a story about how he had moved into a house with a spirirt within. This was a particulary sad story. Whenever he was alone, he sensed that someone was trying to get his attention and sometimes objects would move on their own. Their was one night where a strong thunderstorm approached his area. At midnight, he sensed something crawl in bed with him. He sensed fear, not from him, but from the very presence itself, as if it was scared of the storm. Eventually, he found out that the spiirit was that of a teenage girl who committed suicide in the 1800s. Apparently, she saw much of her father in him. At the moment he found this out, the atmosphere became almost heartbreaking and he heard the faint sound of a girl crying. I believe the spirit eventually passed over, though I cannot remember the details.
Properly stated- the supernatural is proper only to God. Lucifer and the demons operate in the praeternatural which is still above our realm, the natural.

People that fancy themselves as psychics and mediums and necromancers and soothesayers are really playing into the hands of the demon. The demon is a liar and always has been.

Nothing good comes from communicating with the demons. There is no commo with the “dearly departed” or “good spirits”. It is verbotten. What is really happening is communication with the demon which may take any form or identity to trap and ensnare the believers in paranormal activity and occult dabblings.

Perfect example. People preaching about things they know know nothing about. On these subjects Christians do do nothing but spew doctrine because very few have first hand experience with the occult.

Exorcists do, and this is their advice.

If this is true, then why arnt all occultist and and new agers infested with demons? The people who become possesed are those who beleave evrything they are told and get in over their head.

You poor, poor soul. Living and natural existence rejecting the supernatural grace from God.

Demonic possession; infestation and molestation is not like in the movies. You can’t just look at someone and know that they are in one of these categories of demonic influence.

Wicca is of the devil. You will probably know just much demonic influence is affecting you when you try to leave this cult.

I will pray for you.

Interesting perspective. So what is your take on Catholic Priest exorcists who exorcise demons? How do they do it? And what do Wiccans consider “demons” anyway?

I know this, I’ve run into malevolent stuff before, ranging from aggressive to subtle. Wicca is not of the Devil, it is a path based on personal development rather than sitting back and just having your religion explained to you. Wicca is not a cult, cults are run by influential individuals with alot of power over their followers. I’m a solitary eclectic Wiccan, I answer to none but the Rede.

I hope some day you will become more open minded. Hail of Sael.

Well, to firstly answer you question, Christian exorcisms call apon a widely worshiped diety. Wiccans beleave that all dietys, be it YHWY, Odin, Aries, Vishnu, or any other traditional god, are real entity’s representing different faces of the ultimate god. The ultimate Is decided into the divine masculen (horned god) and divine femanin (goddess). They are in tern made up of the traditional gods which have revealed themselves to the people of earth. Each god or pantheon is a glimpse, a portion of the ultimate god, revealing itself in a culturally reletive context. Thus, the Hebrew god revealed himself in a context reletive to Hebrew culture just as Tyr did to the Germanic people or Aries to the Greeks. From the actions and teachings of the Christian god he likely represents some of the ultimate gods protectiveness and desire for control (why he warns his followers against other entity’s).

Christian priests drive out demons through their own power as well as through the assistance of YHWH, but the same results can be obtained with the use of many different dietys. Wiccans can and do drive out demons as well.

Now what is a demon? A spirit with a malevolent intent. They represent the darker side of the ultimate god. No different from a human con-artist or mugger. Wiccas most basic lessons are in defense against such beings, because Wicca is a path that requires risk and courage. The ones who end up possesed are those who rush ahead and get in over their head, or “fluffy bunnys” who think everything in the universe is nice and good and happy to help them.

I’m glad your not looking for a “scientific” explaination to the paranormal, cause you’ll never find it. Honstely, I find it amusing when scientist or “experts” try to come up scientific or natural explainations for elements or phenomina that exist on a supernatural level.
just an FYI, the OP is no longer a part of these forums so I don’t think he will ever see your response.

You poor soul.

It doesn’t matter what you feel wicca is…it is and has always been evil-of the devil-and subjects you to the lies of the demon.

Behind wicca and all other doctrines of demons is Lucifer, the father of lies.

You poor soul.
Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio. Contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli, esto praesidium. Imperet illi Deus, suplices deprecamur, tuque Princeps militae caelestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos, qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo, divina virtute in infernum detrude. Amen.

And here is the difference between us. You look down on me as a poor lost soul, just because I follow I different religion. I’m not on here trying to convert you to my religion. My religion teaches we all worship the ultimate god, just in different ways. Your God is just another face of the ultimate god, just like mine. The only difference is how we worship it. Your own path of spiritual developement is more structured while mine is more explorative.

I hope some day you begin to be less condescending to other religions. Hail og Sael.
