Thank you for the suggestion but I have tried there and know it well from my yout and my days of hearing. California had services am I see new jersey and rhode island too, but NYC please. It is rather tiresome now for someone as old as I. Although I can recite the mass by heart and attend Daily mass yet I have no place to go that I can hear the sermon.

Welcome to CAF,** Cath24**. 🙂 I’m so sorry you’re having such frustration there in NYC. Can you say a little more about what you need in terms of accomodations, either here or Private Message me? Are you able to use a hearing aid, so are looking for a parish where there is an FM system in the church? Or have you learned sign language and want an interpreted Mass? I’d be happy to ask the two Deaf priests I know from my years in Deaf parishes for resources in NYC Archdiocese, but I’d need to know more specifically what would be of help for you. I can also check with our Helen Keller Regional Rep for what she knows about NYC Catholic parishes if again I know what accommodations you need.

It sounds like you have lost your hearing. Are you a member of ALDA, the Association of Late-Deafened Adults? There may be some ALDA members in NYC who are also Catholic.

Have you approached the Ministry to Seniors of the Archdiocese with your concerns? Are you familiar with the National Catholic Office for the Deaf, and the International Catholic Deaf Association – United States (ICDA-US)?

I will pray for you. I know hearing loss as an adult can be very isolating.

I don’t know what’s considered “politically correct” or acceptable, but it is possible to be unable to speak without being deaf–ergo, mute. I can hear perfectly well, but I can’t speak above a whisper and without gasping for breath due to a paralyzed vocal cord. It’s a lot easier to describe that as “mute.”
