How do faithful Catholics navigate the secular dating world?

It seems to be almost a truism that in modern dating and courtship, there is an expectation (at least among single adults) that there will be sex sooner or later. The norm seems to be between three to six dates, and sometimes sooner than that. In fact, there is a common sentiment that the third date is the “sex date” (or stronger phrases that cannot be repeated here). Absolute sexual continence — not only no sex until marriage, but no passionate, prolonged affectionate activity either — seems to be unknown in today’s world.

Given this scenario, how can a faithful Catholic have any kind of long-term relationship these days with anyone except someone who is either an equally faithful Catholic, or someone of another religious tradition that has the same values? And how common is it for a man or a woman to remain single for a very long period of time, possibly through their 30s and 40s — or beyond — because they cannot meet anyone who shares their convictions and belief in chastity?

Needless to say, Catholic online dating websites are a virtual Godsend for people who adhere to traditional values.

I couldn’t say. That would require having enough interpersonal skills to be able to date.

How? They can abandon their faith.

I would not advise. Been there. Done that. TRAINWRECK.

Stick with your faith guys. Don’t compromise even if she’s “really really pretty!!” 🙂

There is an old saying: Don’t marry for money. Hang around rich people, and marry for love.

Date people who have similar beliefs and boundaries with regards to faith and morals. Date the kind of person you would want to marry and don’t date someone you wouldn’t want to marry. Don’t date someone you don’t want to fall in love with. You can say dating is just for fun, but this is still how a lot of people find their spouses, and when they least expect it.

But be a bit careful. They also attract those who want to pretend they’re good Catholics when what they want to do is to prey upon people who are trusting.
