How do I answer this question?

My atheist stepdad asked me this:

If God can do anything can he create a rock so big that he can’t even lift it

This would contradict his omnipotence, no?

So what you are saying is that if God could lift up the rock then it must be infinite? But cant he create anything? Even to match his own strength? If he couldn’t create the rock that he can’t lift that would mean he can’t do everything and wouldn’t that contradict omnipotence?

Matt Fradd, who is a former agnostic, although, he would have said he was closer to atheist, answered why this question is illogical. I’m not sure if it was on EWTN or on YouTube or something, but I actually do remember it. if someone can find it, feel free to put it on here, because it answers it very well.
 
So what you are telling me is that because God is infinite and eternal. Then whatever he creates has a beginning and an end and relies on him to exist? Then it could not be stronger then God because it is dependent on him to be created?

You are talking jibberish. God cannot create a rock so big He can’t lift it, because God cannot do the logically impossible. And this is a logical impossibility. Like making a square circle. It’s a contradictiion in terms.

Suppose the Barber of Seville shaves all those and only those Sevillians who don’t shave themselves. Does the barber shave himself?
 
So God can’t create anything that is eternal because that would mean it would of had a start and would have been created? And because created things rely on God he can’t create anything as powerful as him?

He can’t do anything that contradicts logic. And all creation is inherently inferior to its creator to begin with. God cannot commit evil either- it’s inconsistent with His nature.

God’s omnipotence does not involve the ability to do logically contradictory things (e.g., a square circle).

What is the real purpose of this question? Philosophers and theologians may enjoy debating it. Ask your stepdad if he can provide the mathematical proof behind Einstein’s famous equation, e = mc2 ? Just because you can’t answer a question doesn’t mean there is no answer.

The question is a conundrum or paradox to weaken your faith if you can’t answer it. The intent is not to enlighten and strengthen you, but to weaken you. Ignore it.

eternal = without beginning or end

immortal = has a beginning, without end.
