How do I best pray for a fallen-away Catholic?

My neighbor, who has a very good heart, is a fallen-away Catholic and who’s also fallen into a life of very grave sin. I’ve been praying for him (usually a couple decades each day for a week).
Today I thought, ‘He may be a hopeless case!’ And then I quickly remembered, with our Lord, no one is hopeless.
My question is, what is the best way and/or how should I pray for him to have a change of heart, repent, and come back to the Church?
