I have realised I have never been a ‘proper’ Catholic, but that is not entirely my fault. My mother never brought my sister and I to Mass on a regular basis, we only really went when our school made us or there was a wedding, funeral, etc.

My mother and sister have seemingly fallen away from the Catholic Church, I don’t even know if my sister considers herself Catholic (I know my mother believes in God but not the Catholic Church). However, I have always found myself referring to myself as ‘Catholic’ - I have been been confirmed as the custom in my country.

Now, I am at university and I want to take steps towards becoming a ‘proper’ Catholic, if you will; a devout Catholic. I want to go to Mass regularly, receive God and his graces and the likes. I know it is stupid, but there is a small fear holding me back. I don’t know why, perhaps it is just nerves of people looking at the ‘new kid’ as such.

Do you have any advice? I have been thinking of emailing the priest there, asking to meet with him to have a small talk but I am unsure as to what to put in the email.
