How do I deal with a fear of confession?

I have a fear of the confessional since I was in Catholic school. I can’t put into words why I have that fear; but I do and I have not been to confess my sins directly to a priest for too many years. I pray to God daily for forgiveness; but I am aware I need to go forth and confess to a priest. Does anyone else have this fear and how did you finally find the courage to go to confession. Please help I feel very lost. God Bless,
