First let me start out by saying I am not catholic, nor am I an observant jew.

I am asking this question, mostly because I dont know how to deal with the feelings I have.

I have always been opposed to abortion. I have been involved personally with abortion, which is why I find this so disturbing.

Recently I have felt a physical need to address abortion, I get disturbed at work thinking about the little children, and feel compelled to do something.

But I feel so powerless, mostly because I do not know how to deal with the feelings, they overwhelm me. I feel disturbed to the point that I feel sick in the stomach.

And I wonder? why is G_D allowing this? I dont hold the girls or any particular person responsible, it is our failure as a society.

I too am failing everytime there is an abortion, but what can I do?

Please help me.

Hi,

First of all, society certainly doesn’t help in the matter of abortions. But society doesn’t choose to have an abortion; an individual person makes that choice. To the degree that the person knows what she is doing, to that degree she is responsible.

If you would like to work to stop abortions, there are many pro-life organizations that you can volunteer with.

On your public profile you identify yourself as a Jewish agnostic. But your concern about why God allows abortion doesn’t sound so agnostic to me. The god of agnosticism is totally indifferent to human activity of any kind. Perhaps your real concern has to do with the fact that you suspect that God is as loving as we say He is. God allows us to make mistakes that a greater can result. We trust Him in this because He has shown more than ample reason to trust Him—we believe. And there it is: it all boils down to how prepared we are to believe Him.
