What do I do, I need help, I am a 17-year-old boy and do not even remember the last time I went to “Church” though I do go to a Catholic school.

I’m praying for you! Turn everything over to Jesus, who loves you. And go to Church.

Assuming, of course, that your parents know about your depression and that you are getting medical help.

If you have severe depression, get professional help. Think of depression as you would a bad knee. If you just keep using it and don’t learn how to take care of it, you can do lasting damage that will hamper you more as you go through life, because it can change your brain biochemically. If you learn how to take care of it, you can do far better.

For a Catholic view of the subject, you could try “The Catholic Guide to Depression” (Aaron Kheriaty, MD and Msgr. John Cihak, STD).

If you think your going to hurt yourself or anybody else please call

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255)

No I am not it is just emotional feelings that just are building up and I am getting frustrated about them.

I was self-harming when I was about the same age as you are, I did not go to a Catholic School, (at that time) but I would imagine that I would have been able to deal with it better if I went to church. If your depression is severe, then you need to see a therapist and possibly take medication. That I have been through, you have my prayers, get to church, please.

First of all do not despair. With Jesus on your side everything is possible.

Depression is quite common and treatable. It could be spiritual in nature, but it can also be caused by natural causes.

Get professional help to discard natural causes, if you still struggle with it maybe reading the following book might help you.

Title: The Noonday Devil: Acedia, the Unnamed Evil of Our Times
Author: Nault O.S.B., Dom Jean-Charles

It also gives ways to overcome depression, if other treatment option do not seem to work.

Last but not least, pray to Jesus for help, and when possible go to Church Adoration along with Sunday Mass unless there is a just reason not to attend.

Believe me, spending time with Jesus, transforms you for the better.

Speak to an adult you trust and explain how you are feeling, it sounds like you need professional help (many of us here have been in therapy, so it’s very common). Also pray to St Jude and St Dymphna.

  1. Don’t ask strangers on the internet.
  2. Talk to your parents about seeing a therapist
  3. Pray every day, especially for others in need .

1). Realize that Jesus and His Holy Family in heaven love you and are praying for you.

2). Start praying the rosary with a sincere heart. Ask the blessed mother to ask Jesus to help you overcome you despair.

3). Start praying the Chaplet of the Holy Wounds. Our Lord’s wounds will heal yours so you can over come your spiritual Affliction. Pray both the rosary and this caplet daily.

4). Do charity work. I know it sounds weird but overcomming your spiritual sloth is the best way to overcome the despair you feel. Join your local Knights of Columbus (PM me if you are interested) as they do charity work that is simple and at your local parish.

5). Watch this video on sloth. It will help you better understand the despair you are feeling and why you are feeling it

I’m praying for you. God love you.
