How do I discern whether to join the Catholic Church?

Hello. My name is Kristiana. I’ve been on a 20+ year quest to define what it is I believe in and my walk has time and again led me to the Catholic Faith. My mother is Roman Catholic, my dad was Baptist, and they had me baptized in an Episcopal Church. But my meandering has led me to faiths throughout time and continents. Recently I read books about the Blessed Virgins appearances to so many people across the globe and Her messages in those apparitions. My heart quaked with an urgency to do as She bade, and I’ve learned and prayed the Rosary since, but have not sought out a spiritual Home, frankly, because I don’t know where to start. At the Catholic Church I visited on Easter Sunday, most of the entire sermon was dedicated not to spiritual ideals, but to the money needed to repair the roof. So I watched mass on TV and found between prayers another spiritual desert where I felt I was viewing more of a political rally against LGBT rights than it served to nurture devotional faith.
In a forum for Catholics, I saw another searching soul like me simply ask an honest question about something she read and wanted to know how it fit in with Catholic doctrine, and the poor soul was shredded as others telling her she had Satan working on her for sure, when her questioned pertained to someone I’ve personally studied for 20 years who advocated FOR Catholicism. As those who answered her she thought spike from Catholic authority, she put down that highly spiritual work and is now convinced it is the devil’s work.

My beliefs align most closely with Catholicism. But I am wondering, as I did buy the Catechism of the Catholic Church work, if I’m not going to be left to explore this faith on my own when I most definitely would like to join others in worship, but am becoming afraid I’m not going to find somewhere that sticks to teaching me about things that will aid my spiritual understanding and growth as I’ve only seen talk of money, politics, and someone devastated simply because she asked a question. I like watching the nuns in worship on TV, but that seems as close as I’ve come to finding what it is I seek. If I cannot find a local Catholic Church to join, does the Church support or disavow Episcopalians? I want to find a spiritual oasis in this desert of a life of Holy Faith and Love. I don’t want to hear about money that a separate meeting could be held for as well as the same could be said for anything political being advocated from the pulpit, and I certainly don’t want to fear asking questions if I have to worry I’m attacked simply for asking questions. I guess I’m looking for a Safe place to learn and practice the Faith. I’ve spent so many years looking outside of Christianity for my spiritual home, that now that I’ve found I want to be loving cradled in Her arms again as I was as a child, I want my home away from home to nourish my soul in answering the questions I have and I want to see talk of money or politics left to other meetings outside of Sunday worship. Am I asking too much, or is this the reality I am facing no matter which church I choose?
I thank you for hearing me out and would so appreciate honest counsel here.

God’s Blessings to You ~
Kristiana
