How do I dispose of old holy water?

I recently worked at the church during a Lenten work day. I cleaned the Holy Water fonts. We have sponges inside of our small fonts and they were crumbling into the water. The water was horribly dirty. One of the men working with me suggested that we pour the water out. I took the water outside and annointed the flowers in the garden with the water.

I was informed that I should not have disposed of the water in that manner. I’m not sure what I should have done with it. Is this something I need to confess??? What do you do with it??

You did nothing wrong. What you should not do is pour it down the drain. I pour it in the garden too.
