How do I evangelize the door to door Jehova's witness

Recently I had a visit from two young men who wanted to share their faith (Jehovah’s witness) with me. We had a long conversation about religion. I really wanted to help them see the whole truth we have in the Catholic Religion. Do you have any suggestions.

I don’t agree that your approach is reasonable. The religious dialogue must never start with sowing seeds of doubt, as when the seed would become a plant it would bear fruits of doubt only, I think. Please learn to plant seeds of certainty from the very beginning, if you find any in your own faith.

Surprisingly enough, I agree with you.

It is one thing to learn that something you have believed is false.

It is entirely another to discover what is actually true.

I recommend that any who seek to talk to JWs when they come to the door should share with them the joy that comes from knowing Christ and anticipating living in His presence forever.

My conversion was not negative – in other words, I did not find Christ in the Catholic Church because I learned the Witnesses were wrong. AFTER I WAS ATTRACTED TO THE CHURCH, from the positive example of people I worked with, I then began investigating and found out what was wrong with the Watchtower paradigm.

PRAY FOR JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES, and share with them your love of Christ and His Church.

I would suggest the first and most important consideration when talking to one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at your door is to show by your behavior you are a follower of Christ.

I can’t tell you how many professed “Christians” have screamed, thrown buckets of water, sprayed us with water hoses, hit us, punched us… while yelling “I’m a Christian and you’re not!!!”

I would suggest showing hospitality and sincerity in order to plant seeds so that the Holy Spirit could work to bring the JWs out of the Watchtower and into Christianity.

The 2nd step would be to have an **interactive **discussion with them. **Start by listening **to what they have to say. Ask them why they believe that. Ask them to show you what the Bible has to say about it.

Then, get out your Bible and share a Scripture with them. Ask them how they understand the Scripture, etc.

Interesting subject.

It was exactly my experience with the Witnesses and starting to believe their teachings that got me to examine their beliefs and in so doing convince myself of the teachings of my own Catholic Church.

If you choose to try to evangelize (the the option is a polite “No, thank you”), I would go with the “seeds of doubt” option. The Witnesses’ organization is but a human organization (even they admit this); an organization led only by humans is not infallible, especially since it has made huge errors in the past, including predicting specific dates for the end of the world. I would point to the Witnesses’ Organization, then point to Jesus Christ and Scripture. If you can get someone to have an open mind and think for themselves instead of just believing the organization’s teachings, you might make progress.

A good place to start might be the issue of the Trinity, specifically the equality of Jesus Christ with God, which the Witnesses deny. Although He may not have used the phrase “I am God” or “I am equal to God,” He is described many times as having characteristics that belong to God alone (e.g., the Creator), and it would be easy to find something like this on the Internet.

Remember too that the Witnesses are very skilled in propaganda. Their routine is to persuade you to join their organization, and they are prepared with quotes from the Bible (often superficial) that seem to prove what they have to say. So, sincere discussion of the Bible on your part may not get you anywhere.

Here is something we can agree upon. You should either be prepared to engage them, or POLITELY tell them you don’t wish to speak with them and to please not return. Anything like was just explained by Steve is pretty unchristian in my opinion.

Now, where’s the part where the JW listens? My neighbor told me one of the funniest things she ever saw in her life was me following a JW away from my door, my bible in hand, explaining scripture to them. I don’t get many knocks these days.

Dear Mary,

Don’t argue with the theology. Argue about where their NWT came from, and their history, and how it linked to the first Christian. BTW, I admire their spirit of evangelization. I am a kind of shameful comparing their efforts against mine.
