How do I explain in vitro fertilization to my kids?

I really could use some advice! I am a homeschooling Catholic mom of five, my niece is in a same sex “marriage,” and is now pregnant. My two oldest kids, 14 and 12, know about her and her partner, and we have spent much time with them over the years. They do not know she is pregnant via in vitro fertilization. Her egg, donor sperm.

We are somewhat estranged because I did not attend their wedding a year and a half ago. It has been hard on my kids to understand and come to terms with their cousin being “married” but now that she is pregnant. I honestly don’t know what to tell my kids. Any advice would be so appreciated!
 
Just tell your kids that their cousin is pregnant. They do not need to know how she became pregnant, and should be taught not to ask such a question of any pregnant woman.
