Have you considered learning Latin, perhaps as a family project with your children? Would that not be a more constructive and edifying way to form your children in their Catholic faith than to grouse to them about the Mass? And why would you want to make the Church look bad to non-Catholics by complaining about how the Mass is celebrated?
Latin is the sacred language of the Church, much like Hebrew is the sacred language of Judaism and Arabic is the sacred language of Islam. You don’t have to know Latin to participate in a Mass that includes Latin, and you can still find plenty of parishes who do not use Latin in the liturgy at all, but you should try to be more open-minded about the Church’s ongoing project to reintroduce Latin into the Roman liturgy.
Jewish scholars have often remarked that reading a translation of the Hebrew Bible is like “kissing your new bride through her veil.” In a similar way, use of a sacred language in the liturgy provides a closeness to the mind and heart of the Church that often can be “lost in translation.”
