I recently began wearing a miraculous medal which I received on a recent retreat. My question is how I should explain it to someone who asks. I understand that during an apparition our lady said "Have a medal struck upon this model. Those who wear it will receive great graces, especially if they wear it around the neck.”

However, I don’t want my explanation to sound magical or superstitious because I know the medal has no power in and of itself. Any thoughts on a way to explain it that clearly distinguishes from a superstitious belief?

Hi Gerry,

How about “Oh! It’s a picture of My Lord’s mom. And my mom too. Like it?”

What do you think?
Are did you want to explain it more?

I wear my Miraculous Medal around my neck in a chain and I wear it under my clothes so it’s not visible. There are various reasons for this. Mainly because it’s a private devotion for me. This way I also avoid getting any questions about it.

I wear both my crucifix and Miraculous Medal to proclaim in my small way that I am a Catholic. If asked I tell them just that “I’m Catholic”. If pressed further I go on to explain about devotion to our Blessed Mother.

The Miraculous Medal Association has a web site with a lot of information about this beautiful devotion. You can review it and it will help you with those responses:

Hi to Gerryann:

This is my most favrorite of all “Catholic Jewelry”, besides the Crucifix of course, and of Jesus being our Savior. I was recently in Paris at the place where the "Miraculous Medal first began. A nun, named Catherine Labourre saw a vision of “Our Lady”, the Virgin Mary. She told Catherine to make a medal which she saw, the M intertwined with the Cross, ( Mary and Jesus) —and the 12 stars signifying the 12 Apostles. OK. In Paris, during this time, all those who wore such, this medal, were spared of the plague that haunted Paris at that time, and they were indeed. Thousand died, but thousands were spared due to their faith. To me, as a new Catholic, I have my medal bought from there, and it is so special to have been in the very spot where the Medal first originated. It was a thrill indeed.

Dear Friend: Don’t ever forget how much God loves you and how He has a plan for your life.🙂 Wear your Miraculous Medal proudly today. Share the Truth with all your Friends. God is counting on YOU.😃
