How do i find a local Latin Mass

i am asking this for me, but also for all the other easily confused folks out there…

I have a great interest in going to a Latin Mass, at least once! but i have trouble keeping all these initials straight, and knowing which of these churches are acceptable to attend, (obedient to the Church)… and which are “schismatic” churches

it seems like all the Latin Mass Churches i find on line say ( Church of St somebody, 3-5 letters) and expect you to know what that means! what the :confused:
is a F in the jumble a bad thing? a R? is there some way for a newbie like me to know if i am walking into a problematic community?

how do i figure this out?
 
There are two sets of initials for sure that you can trust, who are absolutely faithful to Rome. One is FSSP (Priestly Society of St Peter), the other is ICKSP (Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest). You may want to google these organisations to find their webistes, which should tell you whereabouts they operate.

One you should absolutely avoid is SSPV (Society of St Pius V). They are sedevacantists (ie don’t believe that Benedict XVI is validly elected Pope). One which is problematic (their priests are suspended from office by Rome, and they are not granted faculties by Bishops who are in communion with Rome, meaning they cannot offer valid confessions or marriages, although their Eucharist would seem to be valid) is SSPX (Society of St Pius X).

The easiest way to find out about any particular church or group is to ring the office of your local diocese. They will be able to tell you which churches/groups are affiliated with the diocese or approved by the Bishop, and hence trustworthy.
 
When/if you contact your diocese, also ask them if there any diocesan parishes that offer the TLM. My diocese, for example, has two that offer it every Sunday.
 
It would be helpful if every church put the time and location of a TLM being held within the area in it’s individual bulletin. Ditto for confessions.
 
Try this link. From what I’ve seen, it’s fairly accurate and all listings are true EF. In other words, they are either diocesan or else FSSP or ICRSS. Neither the SSPX nor the so-called “independent” outfits are included.

Our archdiocesean website does exactly that. You can search for almost anything you want.

I looked at the website for Philadelphia, but it’s organized differently and apparently covers a huge area. The individual parishes had Mass times listed, but I didn’t look at enough of them to find a Latin Mass.

I would call the office and ask them, or you could just look at parishes from that list that would within an acceptable distance from you. My parish has Latin Mass every Sunday at 3pm, but there are several others in town too.
