What do I do now? I was married very young by a methodist pastor because my husband and I had a child out of wedlock and needed to be put on his health insurance. My priest would not marry us without the classes. Do I need an annulment and remarriage, I’m sad and confused. Our children have all been raised Catholic. and we attend and participate in mass weekly.

If this is the only marriage for you and your husband then you can have your marriage validated by the Church. You do not need an annulment or anything like that. You simply need to meet with your parish priest and explain to him you are civilly married and would like to be married in the Church. The priest will ask for you and your husband’s records of baptism and for proof of civil marriage. Then you’ll simply recite the Church’s wedding vows in front of a priest or deacon and 2 witnesses. Its a relatively simple process.

God bless.
