I have a final and various assignments due tomorrow. I could technically hand in a couple of the assignments late and not be penalized; this way I wouldn’t have to complete them today (thus avoiding work on a Holyday). Obviously there’s nothing I can do about the final. I’m inclined to turn them late for this reason, but at the same time, I’m not sure that I’m not just overanalyzing this. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best course of action might be?

I don’t think that Catholics are obligated to take off work for a day of obligation, are they? We are obligated to go to mass on Thursday this week, yes, but are we obligated to avoid work too?
I am asking because I do not know. I thought that it was okay for people to go to work on days of obligation as long as they still make it to mass that day too. Otherwise there should be a lot of people calling in sick to work and cutting class on Thursday, including myself.

What is the answer regarding work on days of obligation (while still making it to mass)?

The same rule applies to holydays as to Sundays in terms of rest:

2185 On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body.123 Family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse from the obligation of Sunday rest. The faithful should see to it that legitimate excuses do not lead to habits prejudicial to religion, family life, and health.

Go to mass.

It is OK to go to class, take your test, and work on your assignments.

Next time, plan better so that your work is done BEFORE the day it is due. You are a grown up, you can plan better than you did this time.
