How do I get my deceased wife to appear to me?

My wife of 32 years passed away suddenly in February. I wish she would appear to me in a dream. How can I get her to appear to me in a dream? I just want to make sure she is okay.

I’m so sorry for your loss and pray that God will comfort you during this difficult time. To have a loved one die so suddenly must be very awful and hard to understand.

You must be careful though not to allow your natural desire to want to see your wife to tempt you to attempt illicit contact with her. Occasionally God may allow a deceased loved one to assure a survivor that everything is okay, but it is not something for which we can ask or to which we have any right to expect. We certainly cannot initiate any such contact ourselves, which is what your desire could lead you to consider doing. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone (CCC 2116).

What you can do, and what I encourage you to do, is to pray for the repose of your wife’s soul. Pray for her, offer up little sacrifices for her, arrange to have Masses said for her. In this way you’ll be able to do all that you can to assure her eternal well-being. God bless.
