How do I get the JW's to leave us alone?

Invite them in. Have a fully decorated Christmas tree in the room. Watch them as they see the tree. Watch them as they back right out the door. Christmas trees are to JWs as garlic is to vampires.
LOL. The American flag is another good form of garlic against JW’s since they consider it an idol.

I haven’t ever had one, and my neighbors mom is one.

Could it be my 4x4 all decked out in Republican, NRA, NRTL, and Christian bumper stickers? nah.

:nope:

Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t have a gripe with your political stickers. They’re apolitical but they typically will use any indicators of your personal beliefs to find a wedge around which to start a conversation. Statue of Mary? Mebbe the person inside wants to know the real scoop on statue-worship and idoloatry. Or perhaps they’ll enjoy learning how to pray to the true Jehovah-God directly and having real fellowship with Him. Political signs? Maybe the person wants to know God’s real plan for solving the political mess we’re in. Advocacy signs for saving the whales? God’s coming Paradise on Earth might offer this soul some hope.

In some areas the Witnesses are fairly large and the teams of canvassers can cover the surrounding neighborhoods fairly regularly. This is particularly true of inner-city and some low-densiity rural areas. In metropolitan suburban areas this is rather more difficult: few Witnesses per capita, and hence fewer visits. And some congregations have highly-motivated teams of canvassers, others are more lackadaisical. Making it likely you will receive visits less frequently. Well-prepared or even argumentative households will get marked off as disinterested, especially if one refuses any sort of literature. The best bet is to ask to be put on their ‘do not call list’, as others have asked. However: Jehovah’s Witnesses are NOT obliged to honor their own lists, like telemarketers. And if ANYONE of reasonable age in the household–a teenager, an elderly live-in parent (or even one on a visit who happens to answer the door), a person renting your garage apartment–does accept literature or engage them in conversation–well, you’ll see more of them, no-call list or not.

I will say that I had some in-laws from a former marriage who found the Witnesses a bulwark of their lives. The wife–my sister-in-law went through a bitter and cruel divorce which somehow involved a child. The reasons are vague in my memory but I do know thatmy sister-in-law had know child by the time I knew her, whthershe lost custody of the child or whether the child passed away. I believe it was the latter.

Christy was unfortunately the impoverished Cinderella with no resources, who thought she’d married the prince of her dreams, till thinks went sour. She simply couldn’t afford the sort of legal help she needed to win whatever rights she might have been entitled to and they lived in a state where the husband was not obliged to pay for her attorney. Hubby’s family was well-to-do enough to provide for hubby’s attorney and Christy ended up with absolutely nothing, living, literally, in a garage apartment in a grand depression.

The Witnesses somehow learned of the apartment and visited. She eventually converted and brought herself out of the doldrums. She met her new husband a few years later–and shortly after was diagnosed with uterine cancer. She eventually perished of the disease, at something like 29 or 30 years old. . A real tragedy. I do think her faith, however critical of it I am, did sustain and help her in her dark days.

Catholicism was involved in two ways, tangentially. First: Christy’s second husband was far from prosperous–I doubt he even had medical insurance. They received help from various organizations with their bills–never directly from any Catholic organization, simply because I don’t believe this is allowed to Witnesses. They can receive help from a secular organization such as the United Way, which in turn is helped by groups like Catholic Charities. But Witnesses cannot receive help directly from Catholic charities. Secondly: Christy spent her last days in the hospital having exchanges with the nuns, who I suppose knew of her religious affiliation and feared for her soul.

Someone has said that we have a mission field on our doorstep. For those of us who never make it into the mission field this is a wonderful opportunity to witness to people God brings to us! We never have to leave the comfort of our homes, God brings them to us.

I’ve always thought this was a privilage. We should strive to know our faith as well as the faiths of others. In this way we can echo St. Peter in 1Pet 3:15 …always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and respect…

Also, I like taking their literature. I find ways to use it against them. I have a NWT and a KIT (kingdom interliniar translation) and a host of other pamphlets and books…
If you haven’t guessed, i have a particular passion regarding this…thanks

If you’re a JW convert, I would appreciate your help in sharing the fullnes of the faith with them in a way they can accept – or at least in a way that will open their hearts to the possibility that we might be onto something!

I found two more additional from a joke site:
  1. Answer the door wearing a full beard, robes, and carrying an automatic weapon, and greet them with “Allah Akbar”
  2. Draw a chalk outline of a man on your doorstep and scatter several copies of the Watchtower around it.

I was mowing the grass when they came up to me, one of the young ladies asked if I knew who was responsible for all the sin and evil in the world. I said, “Yes, the Democrats.” That sort of disarmed her, I asked if they would like a beer, they said no thanks and have never been back.
Now THAT’S funny! :rotfl:

I love it when they come to my door but they hardly ever do.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂

We have a big ‘meeting’ (that’s what they call it) of JW’s every year at our local soccer stadium, so six years ago we (the Legion of Mary) started organising a low-key project to contact them in and around that area.

It’s fantastic work, I love it! However, they can get very aggresive and threatening, so sometimes you have to toughen-up. The one thing I have learned from this work over six years, is that the JW’s are not just a bunch of well-meaning but misguided folks. They are willingly indoctrinated dupes in the service of a pernicious pagan cult.

I had a JW coming to my door every week and every week I would say"not a good time". I finally let them in one day. I kept telling them how dependant I was on God for everything and the fact that they kept coming to my door was a sign that I should let them in… They of course thought I meant that it was a sign that I was to become a JW one day. I knew better.
We started our study and I had the apologetics book in my back pocket so I decided to give it a try.
The next week, JW #1 brought what I think is an elder with her because JW #1 didn’t talk very much, JW 2 did all the talking.
The next week an even more knowledgable elder was brought in. The discussion got fired up as we approached the TRINITY.
They finally said well I think we need to stop this study right now becasue it’s obvious that you are trying to convert us and we will have no part in this. I never saw them again.
Perhaps a seed was planted, I can only pray and hope that someone else comes along to water it. 😃

Mercygate. No, I am not a JW convert. I am just someone who has a deep desire to share with ‘anyone’ who will listen. And I have been particularly involved with the JW’s…but also Mormans, atheists and the like. It helps to know their history as well as their theology. But it helps to know our own theology too. The biggest thing i think we can do is to simply love them. Jesus told us to let our light shine before men in such a way that they may see our good works and glorify our Father who is in heaven. We don’t have to be major theologians to share with them, we just have to love them as Christ loves us.

But another poster was correct in saying that if you deviate from their little path, they tend to be lost. Stick to one subject and don’t let them jump from topic to topic. Pick something like the person of Jesus or His deity and stick with it. You may have one meeting with them or you could have months of meetings with them. Either way you are doing what God wants us to do, and your faith will be strenghtened in the process…a win win situation:)…have a nice night…

p.s. there are specific ways to evangelize them and lots of holes in their theology. If you would like some good arguements for these just let me know…thanks again

Recently we’ve had the jehovah’s witnesses stop by the house and leave their magazinges. Today, it drove my poor puppy crazy…she actually growled at them, which she never does to anyone.

I don’t want their information, and I would prefer they not stop by and drive my puppy crazy. Perhaps they can convert others, but I’m already on my path to conversion to the Catholic Church, and I like this path.

What is the best thing to do in these situations? Does a no soliciting sign work?
Tell them you don’t wont anything from them and slam the door. I do it. There was a brother that was a former Jehovah witness that converted to Catholicism and he said the best thing to do is shut the door on them otherwise they won’t leave.

About a dog named armageddon, well, I have a 12.5" and 12.5# Jack Russell terrorist that I named Aurora – she thinks that most people at the door are severe threats to our home. She can make many shrink in fear as she jumps up to look them in the eye. :bigyikes:

It is cool that she can say her name, but that won’t scare the JW’s now will it?

I won’t play apologist, but I will stand my ground. They may think I will convert from Catholicism but they have no idea what I went through to become Catholic.

I like to say our country was founded on religious freedom and we can each practice our own faith without worry.

Sprinkle some JW-Be-Gone around your mailbox and near the walkway. The JWs unknowingly get some on their shoes, they take it back to the colony, and … well, the rest is history.

The J.W. should not be given any respect at all they don’t respect you they think your going to hell no matter how good of a person you are. Now imp not saying to hit them are do any harm to them but I don’t see anything wrong of slamming the door on their face and telling them to get the F out of your yard **(YESHUA above all ) **

Invite them in for a Catholic BBQ. Have all your friends come. We are having ribs, beans, and JW’s! Break out the BOOK. Ihs Daryl

I answered the door in nothing but my underwear. They immediatley excused themselves and never came back. I don’t know if I should be offended or happy.

JW’s do not believe in hell, and why as a good catholic or protestant tell them to get the F out of my yard??

Does anyone even care about the lost? Or does anyone care about how we reflect God in our actions? Is this how we are to let our light shine before men…and glorify our God who is in heaven? I hope most of these posts are in jest and not literal…
