How do I get the JW's to leave us alone?

Lk 18:9-14

Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else. “Two people went up to the temple area to pray;one was a Pharisee (Catholic) and the other was a tax collector (JW). The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, 'O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity–greedy, dishonest, adulterous–or even like this **tax collector **(JW). I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income. 'But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’ I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

We don’t have to allow the JW into the house, but we were given the command to love one another as Christ loves us.

In all things charity.

I really try to focus on the passage saying that whatever we do the least of our brother (JW) we do unto Christ.

It is hard to remember that someone coming to your door was sent by God, Himself. I screw up on this all the time, but I try not to call evil good. May God have mercy on me when I do.

Being rude is being evil. Boosting about evil shows us how much we are like the Pharisee. I must stop being like the Pharisee if I want eternal happiness.

May God grant us a charitable heart.

O God, be merciful to me a sinner.

I’m a Catholic convert. On my father’s side, half are non-church going Christians, the other half are JWs. In preparing this summer for a possible family reunion I wanted to brush up on what JWs believe so, if confronted, I could refer to a Catholic apologetic and do so “witnesses” of my own. So I researched and found the book Answering Jehovah’s Witnesses by Jason Evert (Catholic Answers: San Diego 2001). The book gives background on what JWs believe, why they believe it, and where it “goes wrong”. It also gives great tips on what to do when a JW arrives at your doorstep. I have found that by reading this book I have grown stronger in my Catholic faith while being able to “witness” to family members.

You may not convert them, but you may just plant the seed or be the water it needs to grow! Remember we are also called to be the Fishers of Men and called to Feed His Sheep - no matter how annoying it may be. Perhaps there is a greater plan for JWs to come to your doorstep than you realize!

Recently we’ve had the jehovah’s witnesses stop by the house and leave their magazinges. Today, it drove my poor puppy crazy…she actually growled at them, which she never does to anyone.
I don’t want their information, and I would prefer they not stop by and drive my puppy crazy. Perhaps they can convert others, but I’m already on my path to conversion to the Catholic Church, and I like this path.
What is the best thing to do in these situations? Does a no soliciting sign work?
What I normally do is just display JW bookbags on the wall outside the house like trophies and leave old torn up Watchtowers laying around on the porch with a few old cow bones…they never call anymore.

These aren’t really meant to be taken seriously, but here are a few ideas 😉
  1. Start singing Happy BIRTHDAY really loud and off key
  2. Wave the American Flag a LOT
  3. Play Christmas Music (especially anything like Away in a Manger, Joy to the World)
  4. Pretend to talk on the phone to a doctor and say “So, when is my next blood transfusion”
  5. Hold your rosary and pray it while answering the door (this would be a good one)
  6. Sing GOD BLESS AMERICA really loud (my mom told me she saw my ex babysitter at this free summer concert at the park one night and during GOD BLESS AMERICA, neither her nor the friend she was with stood for the song!
I made a sign once that said no soliciting please, I am already a Christian.

I’ve heard of signs that people can put on their doors that say “This is a Catholic home. The literature of other faiths is neither needed nor desired.” Has anyone seen anything like this and if so, do you know where one can acquire one?
In mexico we have those and guess what??? THEY DONT CARE, THEY EVEN COME MORE THAN USSUAL, what i do is get my copy of “beware the JW is satanist”, (in spanish) and show them the proofs, they ussualy run…
maybe this helps…check it out:

I greatly envy all those out there who have these opportunities to have fun with the JWs.

I’m 17, and have only opened the door to a JW once, when my parents weren’t home. I look back on it now (it was a while ago now, around six months), and i think i could have handled the situation better.
I opened the door, and was surprised to find them standing there. Then they started going on about the state of the earth, and they showed me some unrelated bible passage, then they asked me if i knew if god cared. I replied “I’m a catholic, so i know god cares.” (Yes, i saw them salivating). They then proceeded to give mem a magazine, i accepted. It bacame useful; a friend of mine used it for her religion assignment. They told me to read it, and asked for a return visit to see what i thought of it. I haven’t seen them since… either they haven’t visited, or one of my parents told them to go away.

I long for the opportunity to debate with these lost sheep, but i cannot begin to imagine the trouble i’d be in if i let a pair of JW’s into the house…

I checked out your site, and i nearly threw up. VERY protestant site. Not nice…
They said bible is more reliable than religioin… so untrue…

there are lots more better sites on the jws, especially in the catholic answers library. That’s where i learned everything i know about the jws and lots of other cool stuff too.

My last visit from some JWs was about three months ago. It was a husband and wife team. I deducted this from their comment to me that they have been witnesses for the past 17 years.

I like to stay nice to people who come to the door to sell me their religion. This time the encounter did not last very long, because at one point I just kept objecting to a comment the husband had by saying “No, that’s not true.”

When that happened, the wife who had been looking from a distance told me sternly “We don’t like to argue with people.” As soon as she said that I told the husband, “You heard what your wife said. I think she wants to go, so you’d better go with her.”

Well, he had to show that he was a good husband and thus cut the conversation short, but before they left he said: “It was nice talking to you,” and I said "Thank you. Goodbye!

I did mention to them that I was Catholic and that I absolutely looove my Faith, and that I am ready to die for it. (God forbids it comes to that.) Maybe because of this, they have already considered me a lost cause. That explained the short encounter.

Like some posters have mentioned, with Fall in sight, we soon will be visited by all sorts of groups and denominations, just in time for them to bolster membership for Christmas in their respective churches.

I like to sick my husband on them. He’ll talk with them, but reluctantly. He is not very knowledgeable when it comes to religion. Pretty soon he’ll start asking them all sorts of unusual questions and before you know it, the entire conversation has been derailed to other topics, away from religion. I see it this way, he has wasted some of their time and after they leave, it’s just like some neighbors had visited us and all had a nice chat.

i use it just to make my point, now even prots are tired of this guys, gont get so steam about it.

I always say I am a devout Catholic (therefore beyond the pale for most of these guys) and I am not interested in what they have to say or sell.

As Brissy is pretty warm if they take the hint I always offer a glass of cool water so they do not collapse on their way…

The crucifix, theotokros and holywater font help I think.🙂

With 91 posts this may already have been said. From what I recall when I was in the JW’s if someone told the door knocker very specifically that the address was not to be called on, the door knocker had to report it and it was supposed to be made note of. Almost like the various “do not call” registries we have.

Also an external sign on your house that says “No Jehovah’s Witness” is a legally binding notice for them not to knock. But who wants that on their house?

-B.

I think it’s actually called a DO NOT CALL list at the Hall as well. Problem is, they still think they have the right to ask once a year if it’s still a DNC Home. Also, sometimes when the “Elder” serving as the secretary leaves, or changes, the DNC list is lost.

(I know this was a 2004 comment, but it needs to be said)
MariaG,
It is odd you never heard from them again. Usually we encourage people to use their own bibles. Perhaps they forgot to come back or something? That’s very odd.

Yes, there is a “do not call” list. Ask to be put on it. Make it clear you are not interested and do not want any further visits EVER. They may check back every couple years to see if there is someone new in the house, but you most likely won’t be bothered again.

Also, there is no need for a “no jw” sign. Simply put out a “No trespassing” sign. In most states it is illegal for us to knock on doors with that sign on the property.

Hope this helps. I am a Witness, but don’t want to see anyone bothered by anything they are not interested in hearing. While I find some of the “answer the door naked” posts funny, I still think people deserve a serious answer to this question.

not answering the door doesn’t work. I just had a visit from them a short while ago. When I didn’t answer, they stuck a watchtower in my screen door.

See post above yours.

Hi Auroura, simply ask them for an unabridged copy of their literature on CD ROM starting from the days of Russell. I am a history teacher. I asked them for an unabridged copy for the purpose of looking up historical connections in their literature for the purpose of getting their students, children interrested in history. They told me they can not get me a copy of this documentation, made an excuse about having another appointment and left in a hurry. Basically, their old literature has some weird stuff in it. Look for books by David Reed to document such. As you may know they like to set dates. Their God lives in a star cluster of the universe. The 1914 date was once 1874.

They do not want new JW’s to know their history in such an unvarnished format.

Interesting. But I wonder if the material you asked is available through the JW’s? I dunno, maybe not.

It’s gotta be around SOMEWHERE right? If it came from watchtowers and such in the first place then reason says it exists in a watchtower or publication. . .
If it didn’t come from society literature then the whole thing is moot anyway because it wasn’t society standards.
