How do I homeschool on creation and evolution?

I am homeschooling my children and belong to a Catholic homeschooling group. My daughter has had some hard questions for me on creation. I asked some of my homeschooling friends and they have been asked similar questions and they too would like to know what I find out. I found a book that I have not purchased yet called The Creation Answers Book by David Catchpoole, et al., but I believe it is Protestant. I would prefer a Catholic book. I would like to know about the days of creation, if creation and evolution are exclusive, Noah’s Ark and the dinosaurs, the age of the earth, and how we are able to see the light from the stars and stuff like that. Do you know of a Catholic book on this topic?

How you teach on the subjects of creation, intelligent design, and evolution is going to depend on how knowledgeable and comfortable you are in the relevant issues of theology and science. If you are comfortable enough to design your own curriculum, you might pull from various sources the best information you can find on creation, intelligent design, and evolution and teach the subjects in that order, which is the order in which the origins of the universe were revealed to man through theological and scientific inquiry, each building on the other and (when rightly understood) not in inherent conflict with each other.

If these subjects are ones in which you do not feel comfortable proceeding on your own, I recommend contacting a Catholic homeschool curriculum provider, such as Seton Home Study, and asking for recommendations. You might also post your question in the
CAF Parenting sub-forum, so that CAF members who homeschool may provide their own suggestions.
