For a particular intention, how do I know ow many I must pray?

What if I think I need to pray 100 times but I needed to pray 120 times for this intention, how am I supposed to know this?

I think you’re spiraling, friend. You need to talk to a priest.

Prayers aren’t magic spells where there is some specific number. God is not a vending machine.

Please consider mental health treatment.

Prayer doesn’t work like that. I often wish it did.

There isn’t a way to know concretely how much is “enough” for a given intention, but prayer is never a waste of time so the best approach is to keep praying. 🙏

I understand this is difficult, especially since there’s no way of knowing if what you’re asking for will even be granted. It’s important to trust that God will provide what we need when we need it. Also not easy, I know.

Remember to also thank the Lord for the blessings of your life, no matter how small they seem to be, as well as tell Him how much you love Him. Prayer should not be only about asking for things.

I’ll keep you in my own prayers. God bless.

To suggest mental health treatment is outrageous.
I’m not suggesting it in a vacuum. I’m suggesting it because I’m familiar with the OPs body of work and history. You’re relatively new around here and may not know the backstory.

The most important thing is to pray with your Heart.

But we have things like first nine Friday’s, it isn’t some first Friday’s and hope you do enough of them.

Don’t project human pettiness on to God.
This is what we know about prayer—that we are to pray without ceasing and know that God has our best interests in mind.

We need to walk that middle ground. Pray for your needs and for other people’s needs every day, but not in a sense of panic or trying to bargain with God.

At the same time, it’s normal to feel scared or sad or angry when things are going badly. It’s normal to feel bad when we’re carrying our cross. That’s why it’s a cross. Jesus felt pretty bad carrying His cross.

But we don’t want these negative emotions and imaginations run away with us, either, to the point we’re actually adding to our own sufferings.

Sometimes it’s hard to untangle the threads of what our suffering actually is -vs- how we feel about this suffering -vs- the limits of what we can humanly do about the situation -vs- all our fears and projections about the future and our panicked imaginations.

If I’m not mistaken, the First Fridays devotion promises certain things to those who sincerely practice it. It does not promise that every intention prayed for will be granted, nor that what is promised will be granted in a particular time frame.

Persevere in your prayers, even when things seem bleak. 🙏

The worst thing is to hope and pray all the time just to feel abandoned.
It’s not normal to feel this way. You can just keep doing what you’ve been doing, or you can try other avenues for help. It’s your call.

this is exactly why you should rely on the word of God and not on man

8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

no wonder some catholic admits that most of you are not really christian

Jesus Christ taught us how to pray in this verse

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

so then i thought it was okay to repeat our father but it was not i thought that after i pray i would follow it with our father pray abd end it with amen

but i was wrong our father was an example prayer he was like teaching us to pray to our father in heaven and not on himself but in the name of jesus since it is written whatever you ask in Jesus name it shall be given

anyway this depends on your own understanding since all of us are right in our own eyes

I once heard a saying; A single grateful thought is the most complete prayer. It works for me.

hope this helps

14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Dear new person on the thread,

Welcome to our little corner of the universe 🙂❤️

But was that phraseology really necessary?

Sincerely yours,

Me

it is expressing my sincerety or should i lie instead? it is a part of me since i am sometime very straight forward

I understand well. I would add, though, that it sometimes better to withhold judgmental phrases in order to carry credibility to a broader audience. But knowing this is a part of your nature, I can work with it. 🙂

i also expect that they wouldn’t like whatever i would say(based on convo with a catholic) but i had to

because i realized while reading that people needed help here more than on other forums i actually was just passing by tryin to find other christian forum

while was reading this thread and comment i was shocked

and btw that is true that some catholic told me that they are not really christians but catholic

I"ve learned never to be shocked by what anyone says. In my 62 years I have found that there is no religion, no business, no government, and no social club that is not filled with members who are clueless about what it is they do. I myself am bereft in the knowledge of many aspects of everything which interests me in life. But this gives all of us an opportunity to practice tact and forbearance without sounding superior. Paul tells us to esteem everyone as better than ourselves. Humility must be learned in this way.

There will always be those who need extra help and who seem to be sadly unaware of what their church teaches, whatever church they belong to. I applaud those in this and other forums who are not afraid to ask the most basic questions. If one needs help, it is our Christian duty to offer them a hand without belittlement.

some catholic told me they were not really christians <<<

As alluded to above, never take the word of a member. Look in the Catechism if you want to know what the church says. I have found that everything I was taught about the big bad Catholic Church, everything, is not true. It is a fine, ancient, and thoroughly Christ-centered organization.
