The other day I was thinking about a sin I may have committed. I’m not sure if it’s mortal, or if it’s even venial. I decided that it probably wasn’t a mortal sin. The day after that I went to Mass & received Communion. Now I’m thinking if I have committed sacrilege. Do I need to go to Confession before receiving Communion? Thanks.

Hi,

For a sin to be mortal it must be objectively sinful, one must know that it is sinful—and one must freely choose to commit the act. You are not sure that you committed the act and you are not sure that the act was sinful. There is no sin here.
