How do I know if this sin is mortal?

I went to confession yesterday, and confessed my sins to the priest, but I couldn’t ask him many questions due to the fact I had already taken 20+ minutes. I want to actually receive communion today, so I decided to ask here. I already sent a message to the priest but it might take time to read.

So yesterday, after I got home, me and my cousin (both teenagers) decide to load up ‘Roblox’ and go to a game and cause mischief there. So we ended up trying to kick the manager out of the place and we were typing revolution in the chat and kind of sabotaging the work, in a realistic attempt to get the manager seat to my cousin. However the others started going overboard and saying ‘death to the manager’ which I then promptly disagreed with. It was not my intention to hurt any feelings, just to do a stupid joke, and I think they realised that. After, I just said to the ‘manager ok keep your spot’ and left to go to sleep. Now I am having thoughts plague me that that was a mortal sin. Is this actually true, because if so, wow. I myself think this is a venial sin, but I am worried I may be wrong and take communion and do sacrilige.

If you don’t realize it’s a mortal or grave sin (and this doesn’t sound like one anyway) then there’s no mortal sin.

It does sound like this game may be a near occasion of sin for you. The fact that you spent over 20 minutes in confession, but then proceeded to “cause mischief” in a game right after should be concerning to you. Sabotaging someone’s work, even in a virtual context, seems to display a lack of maturity, and trying to get the other player “kicked off” seems quite mean-spirited.

However, I do not think this was a mortal sin. But I would caution you to be more careful in how you play this game.

Yes I know, typically, this happens with my cousin, before I realize the magnitude of what i did, after I do it. I try so hard to be a good Christian but I always fall short. Sometimes I just feel lime becoming some hermit in the desert.
 
The fact that you recognized your behavior as wrong is good, though.

You may want to try to play the game without causing this type of mischief, or even by teaching and helping fellow game players as a way to “make up” for the mischief. You’ll probably feel better about yourself and will save yourself the worry of whether or not you committed a sin when playing.
 
I typically do’t actually even play this game. I just remembered it from years ago and decided I wanted to do something very random and be funny, but things took a wrong turn… I typically do help others when I do play games, and I will take your suggestion.

I agree with this. It becomes mortal when you know you’re sinning it. (deliberate consent)

Thank ALL of you for helping me grow up in Christ. I don’t know how I can repay you all. Now I can go in peace, and take communion. You don’t know how much you all helped me here. Thank you again.
 
Pray for humility. That will help. I sense theres a lot of pride and very subtle excuse making in some of your comments… becoming a desert hermit isn’t the solution. Grow in virtue and stop sinning is possible without disappearing from society. Use this discomfort at your odd night to grow closer to God.
