How do I know that it is the Holy Spirit who is guiding me?

I am in the process of discerning my vocation, and I have been spending alot of time in prayer. Before reading scripture in prayer, I have been praying that the Holy Spirit guide my prayer to allow me to accurately interpret the things God intends to reveal to me. I do believe that things have been revealed to me, but I find myself questioning whether these are in fact revelations by way of the Holy Spirit or simply my own interpretations (which would make it potentially inaccurate). Essentially, I am wondering if we should presume that our interpretations of scripture read during prayer are ALWAYS being guided by the holy spirit.

Thanks!

Hi,

You need to talk these things over with a confessor or spiritual director for some objectivity. It’s impossible to always be perfectly objective about ourselves. Also, don’t complicate the matter. If the Lord wants you to know something, he will make sure you know it. You are in our prayers.
