“Dear Father Joe: I know Jesus says we have to love everybody, but I really can’t stand one of the people I work with,” this person said. “I’ve prayed about it, but no matter how hard I pray, I get angry just thinking of them. How can I love them?”

Interesting article. Another way to look at it would be to imagine your father has a silly picture he painted many years ago hung up in his garage. You strongly dislike the style and colors but for whatever reason your father absolutely loves it and has has kept it all his life. Even though you don’t like it, the picture in all its silliness still holds a special place in your heart strictly due to its association with your father.

Love people you dislike in the same way as the child loves the father’s silly picture, for the father’s sake. Love your enemies for God’s sake.

Thank you for sharing. That was a good read indeed.

Reminds me Jesus didn’t like Pharisees & scribes. But he died for them just like he died for you & me.

When Jesus held out his hands on the cross, he would not have liked the man holding the hammer and nails. But how did Jesus love him as he loves himself?

If this co-worker you can’t stand were in desperate straits, such as needing a small amount of money, or, because they are depressed, needing someone to talk with, or grief-stricken because of an illness in their family, would you try as best you can to help them in some way? If the answer is yes, this means you already DO love them despite their attitude at work, only you don’t realize it because you have never had the opportunity yet to express that love.

Or if they need you to not make a big deal about a mistake they made.
