How do I make a franciscan crown rosary from a standard one?

Hello is it possible to make a Franciscan crown rosary from q standard 5 decade rosary? I am using a benedictine 5 dec. Rosary, the 4 our fathers are small benedictine medals and the centerpiece is the bedal itself? If I can do this how many rosaries would I need to buy? Tia
 
Use needle nose pliers to unhook one end and add 2 decades IF you can get beads to match.
or, simply ask one of the many rosary makers here on CAF to make you a seven-decade rosary.
IF you have 2 identical rosaries you can use the other one for parts.
 
What would probably be better is to look up “rosary making supplies” and just buy the parts that you need, 🙂
 
Thanks for reply. So how many rosaries would I need to make a 15 decade one? I am still using the Benedictine 5 decade rosary mentioned above ( 4 pater noster = small benedictine medals centerpiece = large benedictine medal ) also I live in the Philippines and the only rosary makers are from monasteries and convents

The Philippines are wonderfully Catholic. It would not surprise me at all if you had a gran or two who made rosaries in your parish. If not, there ought to be more than a few costume jewelry makers who’d have more than enough skill to make your rosary.

You could go a few different routes while you wait for your polished rosary. For instance, it is easy to get cord and make a knotted rosary.

You could also get beads at a craft store and string them on a line like the cheap, plastic rosaries.

Then you’d have one and could wait for someone to make you a fancier metal & bead rosary.
 
You replying to my posts puts a smile on my face. So my school Benedictine rosary is made out of metal and its held together with metal parts. Also I have a littlw experience witb handling rosaries ( changing the cross and centerpiece with needlenose pliers lol ) and I would want to know how many rosaries (black metal benedictine ones) would I need to make a 15 decade rosary and a 7 decade one, tia.
 
Each traditional rosary is 5 decades.
If you want to make a 15-decade rosary, you would need three regular ones.
FOr a Franciscan Crown, 2, as it has 7 decades.
 
Well, I do hope that you’re not simply using your school rosaries because they are free.

St. Benedict rosaries appear to be the typical, 10 prayers, 5 decat rosaries.

For a 15 decat rosary, you’d need 3 of the St. Benedict ones. You’d have the metal and hail mary’s left from 2. For the 7, you’d need 2 and you’d have 3 remaining decates as well as the metal and the Hail Mary strand of one.

One thing that I must caution you is that rosary makers choose materials based on how they work together. For instance, one may select metal that would tangle if long–but is ok in a short rosary. Looking simply at google images of 5 decat rosaries versus 15, one can observe they are made out of different materials. With the 15 typically being much ‘bulkier’ and therefore tangle resistant.

So, in that respect, I’d caution you to try the 7 one first before embarking on the 15.

Also, one of the things I most notice about Franciscan Rosaries is that they are overwhelming simple and not grand. They are often wooden beads strung on a thick cord.

I’d ask, respectfully, that you ponder this. It is no accident that these rosaries are simpler. Franciscan theology is very much about poverty for God’s sake. While it is possible to make an expensive-looking metal & glass bead rosary, it’s a bit contradictory to the message of the Franciscan way.

I make exclusively crystal rosaries for people all the time. They just tell me what kind they want.
All prayer should be done with humility anyway.
 
I’m so sorry, I had visions of your buying rosary after rosary… I did not realize that you are in the Phillipines :o

Interesting. Do you think that certain materials are more suited to the ministry of a certain rosary? I have to say, that if I saw a FFI with a flashy rosary, I’d be quite surprised. I know many would return or sell fancy gifts in favor of giving money to the poor and using something simple. That said, gifts of food seemed never to be questioned, no matter how fancy or fine. 🤣
 
No. I believe that people enjoy having a beautiful rosary as it mirrors their devotion to Our Lady.
Franciscans generally use wood beads, because that’s what Francis likely used. But they are not forbidden to own a nice stone or crystal rosary. My children bought me a gold rosary from Italy. It has no bearing on what I do charitably for others. Most of my rosaries are given away, btw. I just don’t like to use cheap materials. Even when I used to make them from Olive wood, the beads were REALLY expensive from the Holy Land. So Substance is not always a good indicator of the cost. Quality centers and crucifies are very expensive. Buy a cheap center and you’ll have a broken rosary within minutes.
The unbreakable “Combat Rosary” (whichI have one) cost me $35. Worth it for my hubs.

Nice. I wouldn’t take it apart. Just ask someone to make you a Franciscan Crown. Or make it yourself by making a knotted rosary. Instructions are online. They’re fun.
 
Alright I just have 6 laying around here and I would like to use some of them for a longer rosary
 
You could also see if one of your friends needs a rosary.
I mean, if I wanted to pray all 20 Decades, I would pray my regular rosary 4 times.
