How do I not let it bother me that a family member has lapsed?

I am having trouble dealing with my aunt, who no longer wants to be Catholic. It truly hurts my heart and I would like some advice on how to not let this bother me. This stems from my grandmother’s passing in June. My aunt is disheartened by the way our family was treated by our parish and so her decision is made.

It should bother you that your aunt has decided she doesn’t want to be Catholic. If her reason is solely because your family was ill-treated after her mother’s death, that is tragic but perhaps it is still possible to resolve this. Talk to the pastor of the parish where the problem occurred. Let him know what has happened to your aunt and ask him to make amends to your aunt and your family on behalf of the parish. If he will not do anything, write to the bishop. Both the pastor and bishop are shepherds and should be made aware when a member of their flock is wandering away because of poor treatment by the field hands.
