Jehovah’s Witnesses are very nice people, kind, and soft-spoken when they knock at your door. Unfortunately, when you tell them that you are a Roman Catholic, they don’t get the message. I have over five of their books already, and when I tell them I already have that issue of the magazine they want to give me, they still don’t get it
.
So, at my wits end, I come to you to unburden my shoulders and hope that you can offer some kind words that I can use to tell them I am really not interested because “I’m really not interested” doesn’t work with them. 🤷

The best way to never again be bothered by door-to-door religious proselytizers – not just JWs but other sects – is to invite them in, talk to them, and politely challenge them to explain why anyone should accept the authority of a Christian (or allegedly Christian) group founded in the nineteenth century when Jesus promised that his Church would never fall into apostasy. The trick is to deflect any attempt to change the subject, to keep bringing them back to that point, and to make it clear that this is the only important issue to you. Do it well just once and you’ll never be bothered by local members of that group again.

That said, many Catholics either are unprepared for this kind of debate or (quite understandably) are unwilling to devote an hour of their time to debating strangers in their own home. If that is the case for you, here is an alternative strategy: When you open the door, hold it mostly closed and peek around it to greet your callers. (You’ll need to do this anyway for safety reasons if you don’t have a peephole.) Once they identify themselves, smile politely; say “Thank you, but I’m not interested. Please remove this address from your files”; and close the door.
