How do I promote the EF in my diocese?

Here in my diocese we have a FSSP parish which I attend. I think that because we have one of those, there is not much effort to promote the EF in other parishes. There is one other parich that has a low mass every friday evening. I have not been to that one, so I don’t know how well attended it is. But I would love to see the EF spread to other parishes on Sundays.

But since I am not a member of these other parishes, what can I do to help others in my diocese experience this form of the mass?

A lot is going to depend on your Bishop. Ours eventually invited the FSSP in about 18 months ago.

In our diocese there has been a chapter of Una Voce for many years. They were able to secure a weekly EF Mass using the services of a very elderly old priest. When he began having health issues the Bishop reluctantly invited in FSSP but it took several organizations and a letter to Rome to get the job done. One of the groups began a petition drive throughout the Diocese requesting the Mass. They were able to get over 300 signitures. They held monthly meetings and set a course for each committee to pursue.

The Bishop has since stated in writing that he has no intention of doing more. He has submitted his resignation to Rome and it has been accepted. Now we are waiting for a new Abp.
All our plans are on hold while Rome plods along. So be it.

Why did your bishop resign? Did he reach the required age? Was it because of the EF?

INVITE everybody you know People always talk about how slowly the Church moves… well because the Holy Spirit is slowly moving peoples’ hearts towards tradition, it takes a bit of nudging. I’ve been inviting for a while, and it looks like it’s going to finally work out soon!! Pray that God touches their hearts!!

On a bigger level, it’s the issue of education. The uneducated will take anything that’s thrown at them. Also of example - and there’s a lot of bad examples out there, ESPECIALLY in the youth ministry!

If you’re a very influential person, then maybe you can affect the way your diocese works… otherwise, invite and pray

Six young priests (well, some seminarians) in my diocese, the few we have… ALL want to learn the traditional Mass. So IMHO, in the future it will be priests who bring the EF to people.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but don’t forget to pray for it. Maybe do a novena or perhaps a fast.

Also, attend that Low Mass. The more people go to stuff, the more people will want to go. And invite friends from other parishes. A lot of people would like to experience the EF, but don’t know about it or just don’t go out of human inertia.

gauge the interest of people within your parish. if not a lot of people will attend, the parish won’t bother setting up an EF mass

but if there’s not enough within your parish, see if there are in nearby parishes who would. as long as you can gather enough people. get signatures if you could. then present this to your parish priest. you need his support if you’re going to use his parish. also, Masses aren’t free (the grace is free, the electricity and other upkeep isn’t) so you need to prove that financially you can support the Mass. if your parish doesn’t have anyone who can say an EF mass, you will need to invite a priest who can. this would mean finding a priest who can, plus the stipend for that priest (travel expenses, etc.)

once you’ve convinced the parish priest and has his support, time to forward that request to the Bishop, then await his decision

if you want to be taken seriously, you really need to put a lot of work into it. you can’t just write the Bishop and ask for something and expect it to be given. if you can prove from the beginning that this is worth their effort, then they can promptly say YES to your request as soon as possible.
