How do I receive Communion if I am diagnosed with celiac disease?

I am in the process of undergoing testing for celiac disease. I have a myriad of symptoms and am expecting the tests to come back positive. Since the host is made out of wheat, how can I receive the Eucharist? Can I receive under the wine alone? Will I need to talk with my parish priest about this?

You have two options:
  1. You can receive a low gluten host. These low gluten hosts contain such small amounts of gluten (0.01% gluten) that many persons with celiac disease should be able to receive them. Many parishes do not have these readily available, you’d have to request them at the parish at which you are a regular communicant.
  2. If you are unable to receive those hosts or the parish doesn’t have them, you may request before Mass to receive from a chalice.
