How do I respond to allegations of the Church being rich?

I don’t know how to answer the question about the material riches of the Catholic church. When the argument is that the church is so rich (such as the Vatican) and so many people are suffering from poverty. Could you please help me clarify why we have gold and expensive art ect…? I am aware that the Catholic church is responsible for many or our hospitals and Universities and Library ect. Could you give me some figures?
