How do I respond to someone (on CAF) who thinks that there should be no rules or laws and thinks that she?he should never punish there kids, and would never have an abortion but thinks that it should be legal, and that if we are truly free that we don’t need laws?

Ask: Why are they allowed to make a rule that there shall be no rules?

It looks like you have a smug wise-guy that has nothing else to do but aggravate people with “their superior debating skills”…LOOK MA !!!

I don’t know. I just want to convince him/her.
You can’t convince people per se…you just have to speak the Truth and pray that they accept Truth.

The fact is, God gave us rules to live by. If we (this person) chooses not to live by them, so be it. You do what you can to show them otherwise (keeping charity with truth) and hope they come to see it. In the end, God’s rules will be what matters…and He was/is pretty clear about what those rules are, and what the wages are of disobedience.

As to punishing our children; this teaches them consequences for their actions or for disobedience. “Spare the rod, spoil the child…” (but don’t get abusive, and dont’ provoke).

Thanks this helped some but I didn’t get his/her response yet so we will see if it convinces him/her.

Perhaps pointing to rules in Nature like the Law of Gravity or other things that matter must obey, or the natural law like, don’t kill or take what is not yours.

Another argument could be based on simple reason: Was what the Nazi’s did in Germany to the Jews and others right? it sure as heck wasn’t against the law to persecute Jews so, was it right? Should there be laws against that sort of thing?
