How do I respond to this?

ask her why the rich man was praying for his family in Luke 16

“Love God” Means to LOVE everyone like God loves you. Please Reread Mt. 18:20-22:)

The response to the Heb [excellent choice BTW] is that 'Dead MEANS DEAD [period], not near dead or a medical explanation for temporary dead: BUT DEAD DEAD:thumbsup:

patience and charity are BOTH virtues; yes:D
God Bless you!

I try my best to love everyone, which is why I agreed that I will back off, as that is what others said, and I think that’s what God wants.

Thanks. This comes close to what I always wondered: If birds and butterflies can return to their parents or grandparents hibernation grounds, why wouldn’t I have such genetic imprints, too. Perhaps even a spiritual memory as well. But the reincarnation thing is usually too self-serving and literal, and of course, very few people are mere slaves on a pyramid in a past life. They are always pharaohs and queens.

I’ll take the stakes on a One Life Only basis. It makes more sense and is a better gamble, sort of like Pascal’s bet.
I too will "take the stakes on a “One Life Only” basis.😃 Note: I used to dream all the time about living underground and being solder fighting against Hitler. I even spoke German in my dreams and understood it. About the time I was in my 20’s I finally shared this dream with my parents. My mother then explained that three of her uncles remained in Holland during that time and did in fact live under their grandmother’s root cellar. They, along with neighboring men would go out at night and bomb bridges to stop military transports of the Germans.

My mother’s father was one child of 11 that was sent to Canada to get away from Hitler. That is all the family could afford to do, and he was the only one, at the age of 16 that had a full college degree. My mothers mother spoke German, Old Russian, Dutch and English. My mother spoke French, Latin, German, English, Old Russian, Dutch and could within 30 minutes of sitting in a room with any group of people talking among themselves pick up and begin speaking their language with them. Weird huh?

Makes you wonder?

👍 Bravo and God Bless. It’s the right choice. I’ve been there – it’ll work out, because when you get out of the way, God can do His work! :D:

Don’t overlook the simple what if questions.

What if there is reincarnation?

then one is on an endless cycle of incarnations into lower life forms. As one becomes less and less dependent on emotions, people, stuff or whatever — a rock requires less than a rabbit.

What if one dies and goes to be judged by God as Matthew 25, Hebrews 9:27 teaches?

Then one is either going to live eternally with God or one is going to be in that unpleasent place.

Which gamble is that lady willing to take?

LoveGod102 stated concerning the re-incarnation issue:
That said, while I would still like to know how to respond to such an objection . . .

I think this was a good answer (there were others too–Hebrews and the CCC quotes).

What objections are raised trying to put forth re-incarnation that have not been addressed here so far? Raise the level of objection against the Catholic position and I think the “Catholic apologetics types” will be more focused in on what the objections (and answers to those objections) are.

Regarding helping your grandmother, one effective non-polemic approach might be to ask her to join you once in awhile at the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. I discussed this concept more on another post (here if interested in more information about this approach).

Does she read? If so, you might provide her with some Catholic mystical things to read like St. Faustina’s diary (here), one of St. Teresa of Avila’s books (here or here), St. Catherine of Siena’s Dialogues (here) or a book about St. Padre Pio (this very good one isn’t even by a Catholic at least when he wrote it).

Invite her along when you go to Confession too.

You care deeply about her and this is quite admirable to see.

Keep up the good work!

God bless.
