How do I say a novena properly?

Hi,

If I feel that I may have not said a novena prayer correctly, perhaps in the middle of the 3 day or 9 day period, can I simply make intention to start over and restart it all from the beginning?

I apologize if my question is silly, but I really want to do it as correctly as possible. Please help.
